Finally buying a respectable PC, need help on a few parts!

So, I'm upgrading a pretty garbo computer that's being kept afloat by a 750ti for basic gaming (wow, witcher 2, ME 2/3, dragon age, hearthstone, LoL, SC2, Diablo 3, etc).

I have a pretty good idea on what I want, but I just haven't found a case or motherboard that I'm 100% comfortable with, either because of multiple bad reviews (even if they have very good ratings overall) referencing similar issues, or lack of features, etc. I'm also not sure if I would be alright just re-using my 750ti (EVGA SC) and OC'ing it, or buying something like an R9 270x or something similar. I have a PS4 and Xbox One, so any super demanding games will be played on those, I don't play BF4 or anything, just Wow, D3, and a few older games, I feel like I'll be alright, but still not completely sure on that.

Anyways, I'll get to the parts list

CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k (pretty much set in stone)
Fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (not going to be doing any crazy OC'ing, not super interested in liquid)
PSU: EVGA 650w SuperNOVA ATX 12V (also saw a SeaSonic one that got excellent reviews I'd buy)
SSD: Crucial MX100 512GB (I have a 1TB External HD I bought for my current machine I'll be using for storage and for things I'm not currently using)
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8gb 1600 (2x4GB) (considering 16gb or 1886 speed)
Disc Drive: ASUS 24x DVD-RW (boring part, basically every build I've ever seen used this)
MOBO: ASUS ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Z97 (Is it too big for a mid ATX case or is that the standard size?)

The Case I'm leaning towards right now is the Antec 900 ATX Mid, it had the cleanest reviews, but I've skimmed over this forum and couple others and see very little recommendations for it. I just want something with solid build quality, air filters (I have 2 medium-haired cats who seem to shed 24/7), big enough for a potential GPU upgrade (so at least a Mid), and doesn't look ridiculous. My budget isn't really limited, I understand what I'm going to be using it primarily for, and don't want to go overkill, so I'd like to stay under 1,000-1,200 dollars (which still sounds like overkill). I just want to be able to play games on reasonably high settings (not offended by turning off shadows or toning down AA). Thanks for your help.

GPU: new generation of GPUs will be presented earlier this month and released towards the end. I'm buying the GTX 980, rumours say its going to be cheaper than previous Nvidia cards.

So my 750ti will be good enough for the next few months atleast? I've already pre-ordered the witcher 3, dragon age: inqusition, MGS V, shadow of mordor, and Destiny for PS4, so I don't have a huge need for a card immediately.

Do you mean the 980 will be cheaper than the 780 was at release?

So within that 1k-1.2k do you need any peripherals (monitor/mouse/keyboard) and o/s?

I do not, I will be transferring my Windows 7 to the SSD from my current HD. I already have a good mouse/keyboard/monitor/speakers.

save the money over for either a Maxwell series GPU next month or get an R9-285(X) when they launch.

That case looks like exactly like what I had in mind, nothing fancy, just functional and practical, also think that PSU is worth getting, XfX is made by seasonic right? I've heard that's a good PSU brand generally. Thank you for the suggestions.
