Most of the lag complaining is just people not understanding (the admittingly fairly silly way) cast times work in the game. Cast times (even abilities not just spells, so all the ground effects from mobs included) actually finish somewhere around 80% of the cast time. It may be 81% or 85% I don't know the exact decimal, but its easy enough to test yourself just grab a class with a spell (Level 2 CNJ is cure) and cast it on yourself, start running around 80% and watch it finish while you move without interrupting. The mob abilities function the same way, at that specific mark the spell completes and you will be hit if you were inside of the red zone even if you moved out of the red zone in the 80-100% cast time of the ability. Solution is to pretend 80% = 100% and don't wager on finishing your cast the moving out at the last second.
As for too late, no, there is a catch up mechanic that might outclass the timeless island in WoW. Allied seals purchase i90 gear, HM primals were designed for i60 and even the higher HM dungeons drop i80 to give you a scale. Allied seals can be obtained through easy daily quests or joining a hunt party that rides around killing rare spawn mobs. A-ranks give 20 seals per kill, you can fairly easily get multiple a day and it takes 260 seals to fully gear your character in i90. (This excludes one ring and your weapon as the weapons are insanely expensive and you should just do your relic quest, and the rings are unique so you can only own one of each type)
About your spell comment not quite...That IS lag. Yes it wirks odd in this game but when I had a slower connection I experienced what you describe not as much anymore with a 200 or I guess now 250mbps connection.
For me, there's about a 300ms spell latency, anything that has less than .3 seconds is effectively cast. It's definitely lag, but it's also very predictable and not really an excuse for dying or messing up.
Gilgamesh
biased of course, but we have american steak theory
This game does interest me as a long time FF fan. I just dunno if I can afford to play it.
I like how they have the FF1 style class upgrades. But that crafting system sounds terrible. And so does having to have multiple classes to be better at it. Is there any reward to saying just playing a Lancer/Dragoon or is it just not worth doing that?
That is lag. It would be retarded design to move out of a cast ability at 80% instead of 100% lol. But, solution is to just run out as soon as you see it like you mentioned but no one really does that and just blame it on lag. Yes the lag is there, I'm not denying that but to blame it for 100% of your deaths is just annoying.
