    I'd also consider Inscription? Or at least on an alt. Having it means that you won't have to pay a ginormous sum of gold for a trinket that you won't be replacing unless you raid mythics, and also means that you can sell said trinket for said ginormous sum of gold.

    By "combat bonuses", Blizzard means the stat bonuses granted by just having the profession. 1% crit from Skinning. Extra socket with Blacksmithing. Shoulder enchant with Inscription. etc. etc.
    It is a direct combat bonus - at least for a while, possibly for entire expansion.
