    Microsoft to buy Mojang?

    http://online.wsj.com/articles/micro...aft-1410300213

And from reading the article it's all about Minecraft to help Msoft to get more cash in.

I'll keep it short, i feel like it's a bad idea... unless Msoft keep the game open like it is right now. But somehow i doubt it...

    What you guys think?

Edit : For people that dont/cant read the article, the price offer : "The deal would be valued at more than $2 billion and could be signed as early as this week."

I don't see Microsoft changing a lot about the core game. I think they're more interested in acquiring the IP and developing spinoffs, rather than screw with the core game too much.

Minecraft is an amazing idea in the hands of a terrible developer, a real company with real coders remaking this game would be the best thing that could ever happen to it. (And spoiler alert, they sure as fuck wouldn't remake it using Java.)

Well... What has Microsoft ever done, created or released that wasn't designed to rake in as much money as possible? It's 2014, three decades after Windows was released, and they're still hugely overpricing it, and still haven't realized they could release it for pittance and still make tons of money, especially if it utilized some sort of microtransaction system, or even a subscription.

Instead though, a huge portion of students and poor people simply warez it, because of the outrageous prices.

The company has an annual revenue of almost 80 billion, the same amount by the way, that the company helped make the net worth of it's founder, Gates, become. Instead of figuring out new ways of servicing their customers and how to make a bunch of new ones though, they're looking more ways of making more money.

I don't see how them buying Mojang and Minecraft will in any way or form help the game.

Well... If you like Minecraft, and if you like zombies, you might want to check out 7 Days to Die. It's starting to shape out to be pretty damn awesome.

Microsoft Near Deal to Buy Minecraft Maker Mojang

Markus Persson is a bloody socialist by all accounts lol... he gave away like 20% of the company stock to his mates... for free, thats what? 200 million dollars? But then again, he doesn't need the cash. He's already set for life, doesn't matter if he sales Mojang to Microsoft or not... he made around 41 428 571(thats 41 million USD) last year, he also paid 12 571 428 USD in taxes to the Swedish state.

The nerve is called the "nerve of awareness". You cant dissect it. Its a current that runs up the center of your spine. I dont know if any of you have sat down, crossed your legs, smoked DMT, and watch what happens... but what happens to me is this big thing goes RRRRRRRRRAAAAAWWW! up my spine and flashes in my brain... well apparently thats whats going to happen if I do this stuff...

I'm torn - on the one hand, Microsoft buying Mojang could be awesome - a rewritten Minecraft for much better performance would be super sweet. Plus they could add more stuff to the game, release a good SDK, the sky's the limit.

On the other hand, I'm worried it would only be released as an App or Xbox One game, or maybe both. Meanwhile, I like *programs* running on my *PC* that are not "apps" and I don't use a smart phone.

I really hope this doesn't come to pass.

Despite them claiming that they will maintain it on competitors consoles....I foresee the Xbox version getting even more special treatment than even the PC version as a ploy to try and sell more XBones. They claim the Xbox will only have timed exclusive content, but we will see how long that lasts for....

Every update will now be DLC, modding community will die. No effing thank you. They won't be getting a nickle of my money. The great thing about minecraft was the frequent updates and modding friendly nature kept people playing. Which kept people talking about it with their friends and convincing them to buy it.

Microsoft will kill that in favor of DLC micro-transaction bullshit cellphone style crappy business models.

A big issue I have with this is that I doubt m$ will honor the promise notch made to alpha users that they would get everything the game has to offer for free forever. even if that promise is legally binding I'm sure m$ will find a way to get around it to screw those who bought the game in alpha.
We cannot go back. That's why it's hard to choose. You have to make the right choice. As long as you don't choose, everything remains possible.

People need to take off the tinfoil hats and deal with it. Mojang's support for Minecraft has been absolute garbage for years now; if anything, Microsoft is more likely to finish optimizing the code and provide reliable, effective support for the game, even if it's not free.

More likely, Microsoft bought Mojang AB solely so they could own the Minecraft name and licensing rights.

Updates which break every single mod and which don't deliver the unified API they've been promising for years.

    In other words, garbage.

Blame Notch's coding for that. This latest update has taken so long because they've optimized not only the performance but also the code itself to make it a lot more flexible.

I watched a documentary about Mojang, and from that it was pretty clear Notch left the coding several years ago completely to someone else. Are you sure you can blame his coding?

Crappy base code can really fuck over whoever maintains it later for a very long time.

    Probably, yes.

    Actually, no.

They already said that the PS versions will remain supported, however the XBone will have timed exclusive content. Sony still has the rights to those versions, just like when Disney bought Marvel and Universal Studios got stuck with a Marvel theme park. Because the deal was made previously, before the new owner bought them, it must be honored.

However this means should there be a PS5 it will never get MineCraft, nor will any other non Microsoft console.

    Oh well.

This should teach people to stop wasting money on consoles and supporting exclusivity, then.

    It's official.

It's on the Mojang front page. Microsoft also put something on their site as well. Notch made a comment as well as to why he sold it. It's funny, I was calling him a Phil Fish and he outright said watching a video about Phil made him realize who (or actually what) he actually was.

http://www.minecraftforum.net/ has gathered the info into one place.
