If your pet was killed in front of you, to what degree would you retaliate?

I guess the real question is, how emotionally attached are you to your pets? and what would you do to someone who harmed them?

For example, someone breaks into your house. Your dog is trying to ward the intruder off. The intruder kills your dog by gun/blunt force (depending on size of pet). How do you react? I personally have a malchi (maltese/chihuaha) and if I saw a intruder kill my little girl dog haley I would shoot them as non-fatally as possible, and then drag them into my basement to make every last second they were possibly alive a living hell. She's muh little girl.

My dog of my wife's? because there is a huge difference there. My dog I'd probably punch someone. my Wife's dod I'd probably shake his/ her hand since it saved me the inevitable task of doing it myself. My dog is also a Purebred English Bulldog that cost me $300.00 and my wifes was a $75.00 Beagle mix.

If someone killed your dog you would just punch them? Seems you don't really love your dog in any sense and you're just punching someone who took $300 from you...

My dog never leaves the house, so to kill her, someone would have to break in. Breaking in gets you shot once with my .380 just to put you down til the police arrive, but breaking in and killing my dog gets the entire magazine of hollow points unloaded into your ass.

My mom/sister have a pitbull that is kind of the family pet. I am the only male he even lets in the their house without attacking and it is my arm he used during his time of teething so I suppose he is fond of me to some degree. That being said, though I would probably act in defense of him I would not put myself in any serious danger to protect him if he was randomly attacked, nor would I chance going to prison by committing a crime as revenge for harm being done to him.

This. Ths SIG would already be out upon notice of an intruder.

If someone killed my cat infront of me, he would not walk away. I would not kill him/her, but damn close.

If it was by accident I would be pissed but would let it go. If it was intended "Hell hath no fury".

I don't think anyone can honestly answer this question. When something extremely painful like this happens, the person's reaction may be totally unpredictable, i.e. you might not be able to explain afterwards why you reacted the way you did.

Personally, I am against violence to such an extent that I even carefully transport bugs from my room should I encounter them as opposed to just squishing them. And yet, if my favorite parrot pet was killed in front of me, I would probably go on a rampage and do something horrible to the murderer.

A dog ceases being 'just a dog' when you spend hundreds of hours and countless thousands of dollars in keeping it healthy, happy, and well-adjusted. At that point, it becomes a pet. A pet is not just something that you cast aside or stroll away from the loss of. It is not as strong as a familial/blood bond in psychological means, but it is the next best thing.

I had a cat for 18 years. She passed away three years ago. Whenever I think of her, it still brings up a torrent of emotions. Memories of when she was a kitten, of when she got stuck in a tree and had to be rescued via ladder, when she would sleep on my chest and purr so loudly that I could feel it echoing in my bones.

My dogs are not my children, if I had children, I would like to think that I would feel more love for them than one of my pets, but they are darned close.

You cannot explain it to someone who has never had that 'bond' before. Humans sculpted these animals to fill a niche in our lives and they do that to the best of their ability.

Maybe I'd hurt the offender if the blood starts rushing and I see red. I care about my dog, but I don't care as much as to get myself locked in prison over killing someone who killed my pet. Anything can happen in the heat of the moment though.
    Stay salty my friends.

My cat is family to me, and I would act much the same as I would if human family was murdered in front of me; I wouldn't be able to control and stop myself. I have anger issues and know that much already. The sensible side of me would hope the killer would survive until the rage faded and I were able to stop myself.
    Well excuuuse me, Princess.

    You are now breathing manually.
