Woman secretly records video of life under ISIL in Raqqa, Syria.

A Syrian woman from Raqqa chose to carry a hidden camera to record what life is like inside the northern Syria city after it was taken over by Islamic State almost 18 months ago.

Filmed in February and April this year, the footage shows men - and women - carrying weapons as they go about their business in busy streets. A veiled woman with an AK-47 slung over her shoulder can be seen holding a child's hand as they enter a playground.
At one point a man in a car pulls up and beckons to the undercover videographer to come forward before berating her for not sufficiently hiding her face under her veil.

The video, which was aired on France 2 this week, also shows French women talking with relatives in France in an internet cafe. They insist they are happy in the city and have no intention of returning, despite their families' desperate pleas.

The video is definitely worth a watch, only 2:22 long but very surreal.

I don't know what it is about girls wanting 'bad boys'. They want excitement?

I don't know, as weird as it is they do mostly seem happy. Not to mention it seems ISIL is just as choosy with the tenants they enforce as any normal religious person - the women are allowed to walk around freely as long as they are covered.

The one interaction between her and the guy who came up in a car was unexpected too. I expected more of an aggressive tone from him. Not essentially -

Man - "Hello, you should cover up more."

Woman - "Oh sorry, I know that my burqa is a little thin."

Man - "God loves women that cover themselves."

Woman - "Thank you, have a nice day."

    They depart.

Not sure I agree with you there. His words were civil, but I can tell you that as a woman, I tensed up instantly and involuntarily when I heard his tone. I believe that if she had come off as anything less than puppy-rolling-over sweet and apologetic there might have been a different outcome.

This ISIS fiasco will continue for years I fear, and alot of blood will be shed before it's all said and done. Such a shame that the world is still like this in 2014..

Yeah they sure are a peaceful people. As long as there aren't any pesky jews, christians, shiites, yazidis, kurds, or chicks showing off their ankles it looks like they are running a model country there.

The most uncomfortable part of that video for me was watching that mother with that AK-47 slung over her shoulder ... I mean ... the nuzzle was pointing directly at her child

Not saying that ISIL/ISIS isn't a horrible terrorist army, just commenting on how surreal the seeming order and peace shown in the video is.

I can't see where you are getting a picture of "order and peace" from that video.

People walking around carrying loaded weapons, and men confronting women they don't even know on the streets to order them to maintain a certain standard of dress does not in any way represent what I think of when I imagine a community experiencing "order and peace".

Well technically speaking, there is no Mad Max/Mogadishu rape and pillage going on... at least not in that specific place.

Exactly, which honestly to a lesser extent is what I always imagined through the media. Not women walking around unescorted using facebook in internet clubs.

If that particular camera is pointed at heads on pikes for those two minutes, then I guess everything is aok.

You seriously imagined "Mad Max/Mogadishu rape and pillage" in a community they've ruled for almost eight months now? How does that make sense?

I guess you can contrast that to the reports by Iraqui Yazidis:

"Survivors who managed to escape from ISIS say the women held in its prison in Mosul face two fates: Those who convert to Islam are sold as brides to Islamist fighters for prices as low as $25, and ranging up to $150. Those who do not convert face daily rape and a slow death."

In any case, if anything less than "rape and pillage", but the inclusion of loaded guns and arbitrary interrogations about how you wear your clothes, is your definition of a community living in "order and peace", I'd say we have slightly different standards

    I'm sure it is.

When the penalty for the most minor of crimes is torture and/or death, people tend to behave themselves.

I suppose "order and peace" were the wrong words to use

It's just more than I had expected.

    Stick around...you will see.

    Anyway, back on topic
