Why are british and Irish people so ugly compared to other europeans?

In all seriousness, I have recently visited the UK and a couple of cities in Ireland, and the first thing that came to my mind was the absence of any really hot girl in the streets, a lot of uncared, overweight (some straight up obese) women around. Why did the british genepool avoid the proliferation of goodlooking people?
