Why is Google being sued for this? Why isnt Apple getting more heat?

The celebs do have their self to blame some what. You are naive if you put something on the internet thinking there is no chance of getting leaked.

Given that the reason people were able to gain access is because Apple didn't place a limited number of guess attempts on the passwords (a very basic security that should have been very easy for Apple to implement that is so ridiculously common even most free forums have it) thereby leaving a gaping whole in their security for anyone who can run a brute-force attack to gain easy access, saying they should have read the manual is naive.

Oh bullshit. Most of them never even fo to jail for one fucking day, it is very rare.

As for isanybodydown, didn't know it existed and doesn't seem to even work at the moment from the link you gave.
The lack of outrage however, is sort of a problem but I guess it might be a case of celebrities being spoiled brats who can't accept the fact that they made an oopsie, while the average person can get the hell over it.
Pretty much this, if you don't have money or power or both then tough cheese.. Shows who the authorities actually work for because it seems it is not the average Joe / Jill public..

It's naive that they allowed the pics to be uploaded to the cloud.

I pay attention to the news? The last person to go to jail for a big white collar crime was Robert McDonnell if I remember right. So far only one guy has had to go to jail for the depression we had and that is because the guy was a dumbass and did not settle it out of court.

God, hahaha. This board still has the most frustrated and delusional user population I've ever seen. Hurr durr better get down to us normal people, we live in the dirt and you can't even see us from your shiny ivory tower and how dare you don't know about all the technical stuff almost no one except my nerd circle friends and me knows about. Fault's totally on you, person who I envy.

A crime is a crime is a crime.

Well if you stopped making it stink so much maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

And that's horseshit, like cloud storage sites put it in their TOS that they might be hacked. Or that you're some kind of idiot for using them even if they did.

You're connected to the internet right now, exposing your personal information should anyone extract it from your ISP. I guess you're some kind of moron who deserves whatever happens to you?

So the first question would be: If the FBI can act on this, then why not on revenge websites?
If someone can sue a 4th party like Google, how does no1 sue the creator of these websites?
How is there not more outrage about 10 people being able to use the FBI as their personal killsquad while thousands are in the same predicament?

    Discuss!

The sad thing is the icloud wasn't even hacked. Their passwords got 'guessed'. Likely their password was based on something personal which allowed it to be guessed within several thousand tries. There are random password generators... if I was going to put something online that I didn't want anyone to see I would (1) make sure the host's security is solid and it was and then (2) random 25 character password.

Thats because iphones are huge with people that don't know wtf they are doing. Or I guess its should be that is why it iphones are so popular with people that don't know what they're doing. Stuff like auto back up to the cloud is there to prevent some one from doing something stupid, losing all of their files, and then getting pissed off at the phone. (Not to say that there aren't tech savvy people with iphones because there are.)

And the service was and is secure. If they didn't know it was syncing their stuff, they don't really have a clue how to use their phone. Don't attempt to use something you in reality have no idea how to use and then complain that you didn't get the outcome you expected.

I would say they are 'gifting' them to the cloud, both are stupid.

I don't know the law in every state of the US but I'm pretty sure you're wrong about the latter.

I think it's disgusting that stuff like this is only being seriously investigated due to various celebrities becoming the victim rather than the regular people out there who have been pushing for years for revenge porn to be eliminated for the sake of their welfare, career opportunities and mental health. I'm firmly opposed to the victim blaming going on throughout this thread though. Just because somebody is careless and makes a stupid mistake it does not mean that they deserve to have their reputation and careers potentially ruined.

And blaming people who obviously have been trying to hack that server for a while and not putting any onus on the people who actually took nude photos on their phones is stupid too. Sorry kids but you can't blame anyone exclusively. If you are stupid enough to allow private content to get uploaded onto a server share by millions and like every other server is victim to hacker attacks, you deserve to have your shit leaked out. Hackers shouldn't be doing those kinds of things but don't expect them to have morals.

My ISP requires me to give him my personal information. Besides, my personal information is not quite as personal as a pic of my peen0r.

Are you suggesting that Apple requires people to put nude pics on their cloud if they want to use it?

Yeah, I think the moral of this story is "Don't take nudes of yourself." Especially if you are underage.

We can continue this further and say that if you allow your teenage child to use the computer unsupervised, especially if there's a webcam, or if you allow him or her to have a smartphone with a camera, then you're basically saying "go ahead, take pictures of your junk, I don't mind", and you're a bad parent.
