I know parents who have had the stern talk with their kids about the internet, phones with cameras and nudity. I don't think it's automatic that when you bequeath a phone with a camera to a child, you are encouraging them to take pictures of themselves naked. I think even kids who haven't had this talk know it's the wrong thing to do... or at least a really dumb thing to do. Adults too.

I'm guessing in part it might be because the owners of those photos (obviously not the ones in them) uploaded said photos to the revenge sites of their own free will, whereas the owners of the Fappening photos, the celebs, had them hidden behind a password wall, and got hacked.

That obviously doesn't make the revenge sites morally right or anything, and I'm guessing it's still illegal, but it's probably harder to prosecute.

I'd also say never let a kid have a computer in their bedroom. Put it out in the public areas of the house.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

I didn't have much of an opinion on this but when I first read this part I was gobsmacked. I know very little about cyber security compared to how much there is to know but even I would say limiting the number of attempts you get before it locks up for 24 hours or some other contingency applies is like primary school level shit.

It would seem so glaringly obvious, I'd be more inclined to believe it was deliberately left out than it was simply 'overlooked'

The celebs do have their self to blame some what. You are naive if you put something on the internet thinking there is no chance of getting leaked.
That's what baffles me the most too. Apple has piss poor security? Well, whatever, let's sue Google for not being able to remove these pictures from their sites and the search results from their search engine quickly enough instead!

As for isanybodydown, didn't know it existed and doesn't seem to even work at the moment from the link you gave.
The lack of outrage however, is sort of a problem but I guess it might be a case of celebrities being spoiled brats who can't accept the fact that they made an oopsie, while the average person can get the hell over it.
    Pretty much this.

Fair point. If nobody made a big deal out of this these people would have jerked, gotten bored, and forgotten about the whole thing in a day.

I dont remember hearing any names of people that were under 18 but if there were, then law enforcement needs to arrest those celebrities who WERE underage and took nude selfies or whoever took the photos for them for child pornography production as well and lock them up

The sites can also hide behind clever terms of service and legal shenanigans, kind of how all torrent and file-sharing sites can avoid trouble.

Celebrity or not, the law protects people from just stealing your data. People store information on cloud services expecting it to be secure and private and it's up to the provider to take the necessary steps to secure the information they are trusted with. There is a mix of "buyers beware" but if you can so that a provider was breached because of clear negligence then you have a case.

And remember, just because someone leaves there door open means you have the right to start taking their stuff. Digital doors included.
The difference is that Apple DID secure their information, its not Apple's fault. These pictures were stolen because the hackers (and I use that term loosely) Didn't circumvent any security or hack into the cloud. They simply got the passwords for these celebrities accounts by answering their secret questions correctly on the forgot password link. Had the celebrities not been stupid and not picked questions that anyone with access to google could find the answer to, they wouldnt have gotten stolen

It IS secure. They jused used easy to guess passwords, and secret questions for password recovery. Short of requiring an iris scan there isnt much more that Apple couldve done to make the data secure, and yet accessible on devices other than their phone. Also, they couldve disabled Icloud if they didnt want their pictures on the cloud

Obviously because the FBI has hard facts about how the internet works; this has allowed them to reach the conclusion that Google owns the Internet and all of its content.

I have an HTC One phone.... to be fair, nothing that was unix-based was safe from the recently discovered exploit. So it wasn't just mac os and other stuff, it was also android systems that got hit and were vulnerable... funny thing.. the patch to fix the problem didnt fix it.

but yeah... dont use apple.. they are icky.

oh yeah.. back to the topic...

I much much Much MUCH more prefer Anime and Hentai... but would like to take a moment to thank the nice people that made the fappening possible. Also, the nice uploaders from revenge sites. You are just a bunch of haters....

    Made up statistic ahead.

For every 10 people here that posted something against such actions:
    - 8 of those have been to either revenge sites willingly or have seen revenge content without knowing its source.
    - 6 of those have enjoyed the fappening content.

To the people predictably bitching about rich people: If there is inequity in the justice allotted to rich people and common people, the injustice is not enough justice for the common people, not in "too much justice" for the rich. So stop bitching about the rich people having their privacy violations looked into.

Because it wasn't the bankers fault they were forced to give home loans to people that couldn't pay it back. I'll give you one guess who's to blame for that.

I believe you totally missed the point.

Pictures were being hosted on google owned blog sites.

When google received complaints to remove the pictures they took them down.

People not knowing the volume of data that google handle every second of the day.......

Not the safe, not me, we acted as we are allowed to. The thief stole.

Bear that in mind, everyone is allowed to put their photos wherever they want, using the icloud is not idiotic, it's not granting permission for the world to see, the theft is the bad thing.
That's aimed at you, TrueMegaManiac, "nudes they idiotically put on the cloud" is putting the blame on the victim.
I'm not calling out those who looked at, or even shared, the images, but he who stole them.
I'm not saying the celebrities are terribly unfortunate victims, they obviously do have some upsides to their lives, but it's still being a victim.
I problem with your logic is that you equate : stealing internet data to BnE.

While they have similar outcomes, the danger level and risk factor for both parties is completely different. While privacy is violated, where it is violated matter extensively.

What you need to equate is storage. You have stuff in paid storage, and a thief robs your storage containment. You blame the company, AND the thief. We all know the internet is probably the least safe place in the history of Men. Many millions are victimized everyday on the net. It's NOT SAFE, NOTHING IS SAFE ON THE INTERNET. IT'S A STORAGE.

It's insured, not protected. Nothing is protected on the net, it's that simple. INSURED, NOT PROTECTED.

I do slightly blame the victims in this case. You are a high profile sex symbols. You get literally crazy fan mail, and stuff in that bracket EVERYDAY. People are fucking crazy. You leave highly valuable and vulnerable things, open, pretty much for the taking. While it doesn't give people the right to victimize you, it does question the intelligence of said person.

I'm absolutely sure, these celebs have been educated, about what they did and the potential if they did. They ignored said advice from people they paid to tell them about these things. They have consultants on everything. They were educated, ignored safety, and do deserve SOME blame.

We blame people for doing stupid things all the time; we call them dumb-asses. Don't act like you have never called someone a dumb-ass. These celebs did something profoundly STUPID, they are dumb-asses. I'm blaming them for being STUPID, not for being victimized. People that do stupid things, deserve to be called stupid. That's what I am blaming them for; being dumb-asses.

Why? clouds are a relatively new technology in the consumer market and it's easy to forget that not everyone is well-versed in the nuances of all technology they might deal with.

Shoot, how many people do you think are aware of the dangers of not updating the firmware on their modems and routers, or the importance of having antivirus on their smartphones, or not covering your webcams on your laptop since they can easily be hacked or the any other myriad ways in which we are susceptible to the technologies we use on a daily basis.

If I put some nude photos of me in a storage bay and someone gains access to the storage bay because the company has a terrible security system do you blame the storage company, the thief or the person who put their pictures in a storage bay? For some bloody reason people have this idea that just because it's a digital medium a person (especially celebrities) suddenly lose any right to privacy on PRIVATE digital material.
