    New Computer with 1200€ budget

    Hello guys,

I want to build me a new computer to replace my laggy 7 years-old machine. I do mainly gaming. The aim is to keep it more or less as long as I kept the current one, even if I have to drop the graphical preferences year after year.

Point is I am not very interested in hardware.
I have a budget of ~1200€ (I am French) without OS.
I had in mind to go for a I7-4970K, but that more or less all I manage to choose so far. I know it may seems overkill for gaming today, but I also think for the future. I am a bit lost regarding the SSD and the GPU and totaly lost for RAM and motherboard ...

My last question would be should I wait for a month or two if some new hardware will be released dropping the price of current ones, or can I go for it right now ?

    Thanks for your help,

    Gemini.

So is that rig for gaming alone? Do you do anything else with, video recording/streaming editing? That that 1200euro budget include peripherals too or just the main unit?

Yes the rig is for gaming alone but for 5ish years, not for 1 or 2.
I only need the maint unit, i already have all peripherals including a dual screen.

hey Gemini. Tom's Hardware is a great place to look for reviews and tests on all current motherboards, memory, graphics etc etc

anyway, here is what I will get for myself:

    motherboard: GA-X99-Gaming G1 WIFI
graphics: ASUS Radeon R9 290 or ASUS Radeon R9 290X
120gb or 250gb SSD drive, either samsung or crucial. I have only my main games on SSD disk, for everything else I have HDD drive
for memory I dont know yet, since the prices are high atm, and im just waiting for them to drop down, but I think for just gaming 16gb is more than enough, even 8gb is good.

There is no reason to get R9 290 when at almost same price you can get a gtx 970, personally i would even prefer it over 290x too. X99 needs DDR4 (only) which has no advantages yet over gaming. So all that is a waste of money.

Anyway, i used alternate.fr you should check around for better prices:

    cpu: i7-4790K 319€
cpu cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo 31€
    mobo: ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer 127€
    ram: G.Skill 8GB (2x4) 1866MHz Sniper 73€
    ssd: Crucial MX100 2,5" SSD 256 GB 97€
hdd: Western Digital WD Caviar Green 1tb (supposed to be blue probably a typo) 53€
gpu: MSI NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970 GAMING 4GB 4G 354€
    psu: Seasonic M12II-520 EVO 520W 72€
    case:Fractal Design Core 3500 Window 72€
    ------------------------
    Total 1198€
