Got a call on my home phone... FROM my home phone.

So this happened, and I was hoping somebody could tell me why. Got a call about twenty minutes ago, and when I checked the caller ID it was my own phone number. When I answered it, there was nobody else on the line, and then fifteen seconds later it went to a dial tone.

The hell?

There are certain dial codes that connect a phone line to itself for testing purposes. A "Ring test" so to speak.

So either somebody from your home ordered up a ring test.
The system malfunctioned
Somebody called you while caller ID spoofing your own number
Or Somebody messed with the system in order to get your line to ring test itself.

2 possibilities;
- It's possessed. Drop it off at a church and ask them to "deal with it"
- It got so bored that it thought "fuck it, I need someone to talk to"

Or

There's a crazy killer hiding in your house somewhere waiting to get you.

So the possibilities are system glitch, prank, demonic possession, self-aware hardware, or serial killer. Think the service provider would be able to tell me which one?

Nope, find a priest. He can either: Remove the demon from the residence, shield you from a serial killer, or tell you that you need to get the service provider.

Caling the provider can't shield you from a serial killer or remove a demon from the residence!

Don't answer the call. You know what they say. You can always talk to yourself, but when you start answering, you're in trouble.

Because people are paranoid that their communications are all wavey and "out there" and feel more comfortable talking over a land line, even though a land line can be compromised without ever entering a home through use of primitive technologies.

EDIT: oh and some people still use fax machines. And you need a land line for those.
