Haste definitely a go-to for Challenge Modes on beta currently. The extra regeneration is very necessary to keep a high output of Chi Explosions, and when it danger it's a pretty big survivability gain to actually be able to hit Expel. Mastery is kind of lacklustre in comparison.

Yeah, Chi Explosion is kind of special, it screws everything up. In CMs the AoE damage alone would outweigh really any survival concern, and particularly in CMs you tend to take a lot of magic damage, for which mastery/crit/MS are pretty useless. But then again there's always a different set of rules for CMs.

Ok, I wanted to throw some things out

    a) So Apparently the latest Beta patch added a new spell effect called..."Hotfix Passive" that consolidated all the recent hotfixes into a single spell: Hotfix Passive (Wowhead Link)

    b) Contacted Celestalon, the 30% nerf to Chi Explosion mentioned in his post from prior to 6.0.2 (Blue post) was in fact a bit of miscommunication. The 30% was in reference to the nerf that happened in patch 19000 (which hit Beta several days prior to Celestalon's post) that took 89.1% to 62.5%. So no, Brewmasters were not nerfed a second time.

    c) The values in the latest beta build is indeed factoring in the 20% buff from the recent hotfix. So yes, your Chi Explosion is doing 75% of AP

Looks like they buffed WoD food in build 19057. It's kind of buried in the datamined changelogs, but Wowhead shows Sleeper Surprise being up from 75 mastery to 100 now, for example.

So that puts Pandaren in the lead as far as racial secondary stats go, horde-side; 100 mastery (or 100 versatility for Lei Shi fights) is going to be superior to the 110 crit for belfs and the 197 stamina for tauren. If Quaking Palm wasn't such shit compared to Arcane Torrent and War Stomp they'd be the outright winners.

Alliance side I suspect nelf is still going to be the way to go, but as I'm horde I haven't done any real analysis there.

Pandaren lose their racial bonus when you die, because you lose your food buff. Always plan for worst case!

  8. #168
I had a whole thing here where I did math and stuff but it's boring. Instead I'm going to handwave and say that in practice a tank is going to lose less than 5% useful uptime on their food buff due to deaths, because it's rare for a tank to die and get bressed and then have the fight go on for any significant amount of time. Average 95 mastery is still going to be better than 110 crit.

  9. #169
Personally I just like the convenience of not always having to consume food to actually get a racial. Sometimes it's just not important enough to eat food. I liked RPing a panda for a year (like old WC3 Chen), but it got rather annoying that I basically had zero racial just because I didn't bother to eat food for a 5 man or something.

  10. #170
Yeah, no, the top three are all pretty close, to the point where the situational benefits and aesthetics are most of what matters. Honestly when I switched to belf last week it was because I like them better visually than pandaren and they're not obviously bad on the numbers the way eg. trolls are.

It's actually kind of a little puzzling just how strong certain aspects of haste play are (with regards to CMs only). For instance, the haste weapon enchants give an absurd amount of energy regeneration that none of the other enchants can hold a candle to. Defensively it's a crazy gain too since you're constantly triggering the Expel CD reset and the increased chi gen allows to you purify much more frequently (via chi explosion).

It's actually kind of poor gameplay design in my opinion to have everything in a spec fixate around one ability (Chi Explosion), but we'll see how it pans out when it actually hits live.

About a week has passed since my question regarding monk vs paladin. I'll probably be tanking alongside dk in the upcoming expansion. Basing on the tank pairs posted by Totem I guess going back to paladin or taking warrior (which I haven't played as tank yet) would be a better choice?

It's more of a question of how hard the guild you're in is going to be pushing bosses. If you want to start Mythic the week it's available, wipe 100+ times on every hard boss, and never really overgear any of the content, BrM/DK is not a very good combination, probably only better than BrM/Guardian. The reason being that, when undergeared, the two shield tanks have much better tools to stop spikes before they would even happen (Shield Barrier and SotR) whereas a DK/BrM/Guardian kind of has to just take the hits, hope you don't die, and then heal back up afterwards.

If you're lagging a few weeks behind though (starting Mythic that is), you'll naturally collect more gear from Heroic and Mythic farm and spikes won't matter so much simply because you'll have more health and more armor. In that case, there isn't really a wrong combination to go with (except BrM/Guardian, the two worst tanks at handling both magic damage and large attacks that cannot be dodged, some bosses would be nightmares no matter how geared) and you'd get better results playing whatever you have fun with.

If you do feel like you need to switch though, I'd go with a Paladin you've played before over a Warrior you haven't. The hardest part of tanking in an expansion is always the first few months, and you don't want to be learning the spec at the same time. Paladin/DK is a pretty good combo if Warrior just isn't a very feasible option.

Shows an icon when the statue is up, shows a health bar, flashes red when the statue is getting hit.

Only caveat is there's no way to directly check the health of a totem (which the Ox statue technically is), so have to just check the combat log to get its Unit ID - which means if you /reloadui or log off/on while your statue is already up, it stops working until you resummon. Shouldn't be a common thing, though.
Health bar does not work for me. Flashes red are fine, just green bar with Health does not pop up

FIXED --> BOx - Health was with load "Never"...

That was a pretty big oversight ><

Fixed it. I'll post the whole thing to the weakauras thread for posterity.

Just as an FYI, Gift of the Ox was buffed since last I tested on Beta till now and I didn't realize it. Before I was seeing 40% AP, but currently on live and Beta, it's at 100% AP. I've updated SimC with the change. It should be in tomorrow tonight's nightly build. So Multistrike might be higher in the stat valuing with the change.

I'm planning on double checking all of the AP co-efficients tomorrow.

So... as of this build the Black Ox Statue has a melee attack lol.

It was indeed happening tonight, prob a bug tho.

Has anyone taken any consideration to pre-Highmaul gear lists?

After a (very) quick browse around Wowhead I've come up with this list based on a Mastery > Versatility > Crit stat prio (sorry no tool-tip links, I'm a post noob):

Head: Crown of Woe (Crit, Haste)
Neck: Necklace of Holy Deflection (Mastery, Bonus Armor)
    Shoulder: Leafmender Mantle (Mastery, Versatility)
Back: Rigid Scale Cloak (Mastery, Bonus Armor)
    Chest: Bloodfeather Chestwrap (Mastery, Crit)
Bracers: Bracers of Burning Focus (Mastery, Crit)
    Gloves: Crystalbinder Gloves (Mastery, Crit)
    Waist: Crystalbinder Belt (Mastery, Crit)
    Legs: Blackwater Leggings (Mastery, Crit
    Feet: Crystalbinder Sandals (Mastery, Versatility)
Ring 1: Iron Wolf Signet (Mastery, Bonus Armor)
Ring 2: Unsullied Signet (Mastery, Bonus Armor)

Trinket 1: Enforcer's Stun Grenade (+159 Bonus Armor, Use: Grants x Versatility for 20 sec. (2 Min Cooldown))
Trinket 2: Kyrak's Vileblood Serum (+239 Stamina, Use: Grants x Mastery for 15 sec. (1 Min 30 Sec Cooldown))

Weapon 1: Bloodied Hand of Woe (Mastery, Versatility)
Weapon 2: Bloodied Hand of Woe (Mastery, Versatility)

The head is from Molten Core LFR and the rest is just HC dungeons. Haven't included crafted stuff and apexis crystal vendor items.

But, considering we have quite a while before Highmaul opens it should be feasible enough to acquire quite a few of the better itemized pieces before it opens.

    Thoughts? Improvements?

I'm really not sure about trinkets but I *think* that looks like a decent enough combo.

    Legendary ring, CM daily items.

I would also love a Bis list from the raids, so I know what items to try to claim.
