So about those specialization icons..

Do you think they'll ever change them? I mean the combat icon is backstab.. A spell exclusive to Subtlety (or dispatch, but don't get me started on that) Assassination's is Eviscerate.. Which is the only of the three specs that doesn't have that ability! Sub's makes sence in a way. Atleast more than the other two.

What would be your picks for new ones if you could?
Personally I would do something like a poison vile for assassination. Or just keep it simple and make it the mutilate icon.
For combat I would like either Adrenaline rush or Killing spree.
And either keep sub the way it is or use shadow dance.

Or does anyone prefer the original icons?

My icon choices would be

Assassination- Icon for Mutilate(Assassination only attack since TBC)

Combat- Icon for Adrenaline Rush

Sub- Icon for Premeditation (Been in the Sub tree since vanilla. Other iconic sub abilities are step and prep which are now available to all rogues sub has lost the most in the homogenization scheme.)

I agree with you the old icons no longer make sense.

They wont change them just because they like keeping the same icons for the specs since their inception in Vanilla. Assasination use to be about finishers thus it was stamped with eviscerate and Sub always use to focus on stealth so it just got the stealth guy hiding in the bushes I think combat's icon makes the least sense now because its been forever since combat used backstab or daggers and when you could I think that was a pvp build during vanilla it was not effective for any sort of raiding.

I have always associated Combat with Sinister Strike, Assassination with Mutilate, and Subtlety with Hemorrhage.

Each of my gear presets uses these icons in their macro. I've played a rogue for several years and I still get confused by the icons Blizzard uses for the class.

I think they really need to change the sub icon into vendetta. Then it will be perfect. The lack of symmetry is disturbing on live- I mean, sub actually HAS stealth. Dumb!

Blade Flurry for Combat.
Shadow Dance for Subtlety.

Glad to see i'm not the only one who thinks that the icons make no sense.
I'll use each spec's strong CD: Vendetta, Adrenaline Rush and Shadow Dance. They feel iconic and the colours are not similar, so it helps to make the difference more noticeable.

that makes sense but Mutilate has only had Vendetta since cataclysm wouldn't call it an Iconic Ability.
