They might be going for those who figure its easier to pay them than bootleg shows.
Downside of paying per channel is the popular ones will have lots of paying subcribers (like sports channels) while those with a smaller audience may go under or have to charge higher rates.

He means TV broadcasting, bundles, commercials, etc. Not literally Cable itself, as in one of the three main providers of internet (the others being satellite and dsl).
The whole time they were bitching about GoT being the "most pirated show ever" I was wondering when they were going to get off their asses and do this.
You can guarantee no matter which way it goes it'll be a big dick for the consumer to swallow. We must like the taste because we keep swallowing. The only way to truly change the system is to stop consuming.
Had HBO nordic for a while to watch HBO productions, id imagine this would work out similar but be available for Americans. I approve.
If cable companies start losing revenue from TV packages won't they just recoup their profits by charging more for internet connections?

Everyone pirates HBO, and HBO doesn't blame them - because they know the reason for piracy isn't an unwillingness to pay for the product, but a lack of availability (lack of cable), and better service online (watch whenever you like).
I haven't had a cable package for over a decade now. Internet or bust. I will buy HBO GO the moment it's online.
