It matters because it puts that person's parenting skills into question. It also reflects badly on that person's character not because he must be a bad parent but because some people will perceive him as such.
A politician who can't promote order and discipline in his own home will look incompetent to the general public. How can he be trusted to help run the country when he can't even do it at home?
