    Maybe it's so super secret because it stood in orbit only to spy on other nations. And that would indeed make sense on why it was kept such a secret.

    Yeah, because we don't have a intricate array of highly sophisticated spy satellites and a group with the purpose of tapping anything and everything.

    We need a spaceplane to be real spies.

    I somehow doubt it was to spy on anyone.

    I could imagine an X-37 being used to block Russian or Chinese spy satellites from performing their mission. Consider the X-37, which as mentioned before has the ability to relatively dramatically alter it's orbital path. Now take that ability to change it's orbital path, and place said X-37 in an orbit that places it right in front of the optics of an orbiting Russian/Chinese spy satellite. Better yet, place the X-37 in close proximity to a Communication Satellite and use a variety of electromagnetic spectrum jamming. Perhaps the aforementioned strategies are being tested on our own equipment at this juncture.
