USA is doing it with proxies (be it a country or an armed organization) anyway.

He/She is not going to refund his/her degree just because he/she entertains a marginal idea on a particular branch in social sciences. Since social sciences are vague in nature and most of the time you can't measure anything. It involves debates much more than you would see in natural or formal sciences.

Anyway, I partly agree with your professor. In some part of the world (like west Europe or Scandinavia), crime rates are (I think) lower compared to most parts of the world and especially compared to its past. However, in many other places, only thing that keeps people from butchering each other is rigid execution of penal system which was not possible back in day. There were times in history where current Iraq-Syria region was way more prosperous compared to now. Does that imply we have higher violence rate in nowadays?
