Yeah, it's just that ppl can't say that it's implied that employer can monitor everything you do at work with work pc. He can only do it if he is open about it. Luring employees into false expectation of privacy and then breaking it not a legal employer tactic. And on the other hand if employer tells you he won't be monitoring your emails or phone, he may still be allowed to do so in case something related happens. So very much a gray area all around.

And in the end if you are working at work ... problem solved.

My part in this story has been decided. And I will play it well.

It still shouldn't be that grey. Just assume that your employer has access to your email and browsing history. If it's something your boss probably wouldn't want you to be doing at work...don't do it. Also, as I said earlier keep your work on your work phone and your personal stuff on your personal phone. It's literally that simple.
Get a grip man! It's CHEESE!

It's not really a gray area at all.

It's like if you had a personal office in the building. That's your office; nobody else uses it. I can guarantee your boss can get his hands on the keys, if he needs to, though, and has full rights and privileges to go through your stuff in that office. This usually doesn't come up unless your boss is a dick, or if there's a legal issue; he's perfectly able to tell the cops they can search your office without a warrant, and you can't protest, for instance.

They have this authority for a host of really good reasons, which have nothing to do with snooping on their employees. If you're sitting in your office looking at child porn, for instance, they're potentially liable unless they shut you down and report you.
