Ok so I don't know much about specs and such, I know a little bit but not enough. I have the choice between the following two computers;
Computer #1
Cost : $1799.00
CPU: Intel Core i5 4590
Motherboard: ASRock H97M-Pro4 Motherboard
Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB
Memory: Kingston Hyper X Fury HX318C10FK2/8 8GB (2x4GB) Blue
Solid State Drive: Samsung 840 EVO Series 120GB SSD
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Micro Tower Chassis Satin Black
Power Supply: Be Quiet! Pure Power L8 500W Power Supply
Computer #2
Cost : $1999.00
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7 4790K
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Motherboard
Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB
Memory: Kingston Hyper X Fury HX318C10FRK2/8 8GB (2x4GB) Red
Solid State Drive: Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001
Case: NZXT Phantom 530 Case Black
Power Supply: Be Quiet! Pure Power L8 600W Power Supply
I have also been told that for every 50W above 500W on the power supply gives approximately 1 year more life for the computer. I want the computer to last awhile but still be able to play heavy duty games and such.
Any tips and helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.
I realize you've probably already been asked this before but after looking at those prices, I feel that I have to ask. Would you be interested in building your own? Both of those computers are ridiculously overpriced and building your own would be much cheaper and you could get more bang for your buck if you wanted to. For example, I put together the exact same components together and the prices are $400-600 cheaper than the prices in your post. Granted, they are without an OS and monitor/peripherals but you didn't mention whether or not those prices include a monitor and an OS would run you around $100 at most, which still results in $300-500 in savings.
If you're interested in building your own, fill out the information in the stick and we'll gladly help you put together a computer that will fit your needs and save you money in the process.
It should be noted that the prices I listed are $AUS. I have another question, If I was planning on upgrading eventually, would it be possible to move the components from computer #1 into a new full tower case?
Btw dont try and future proof with pc gaming...you will regret that.
You dont NEED a 970 or a 980. You could save much by just buying a mid-range 700 series. Dead serious. 99% of games can be maxed out with that already...there is no need for a 900 series unless you're on the EXTREME edge of pc gaming. By the time you NEED a 980 there will be about 50 other GPUS on the market that are better/faster/cheaper...so until that time comes...just hold on to ur $$ and dont bother throwing money down the drain on an completely unnecessary product.
Better overall than both those builds you linked above for much less money. Self-building is definitely A Thing that you can do, as 99% of everything can only go in one way. Follow the Newegg tutorials, take your time, and you should be fine, barring any dead components.
