Are you able to overclock the base models to the same point as the factory overclocked models?

The msi one is one of the best rated out there in terms of price vs performance. There's also good feedback about how well it overclocks if you're into that sorta thing.

I think I'll be going with Zotac's one on Amazon. It is $327, I would go with the G1 but sadly I am constrained on money and cannot find it anywhere for that price.

$350 and $360, I linked them to you on page 1. In my opinion worth the extra $20 but if you don't have the money then it's not of any use.

Yea I would love to go with the G1, trust me, but Zotacs is all I can afford, and that's already pushing it. Is Zotacs version known to be okay? There is not much info on the non-amp version.

From what I've read in the past they're alright cards but have terrible customer service/warranty/RMA stuff. Just seems a 350 vs 327 is such a small difference when making such a big investment but hey if the money isn't there it's not magically going to appear

And just for the record, in regards to the 970 in general, almost every brand has coil wine of some sort, whether it be loud or quiet, short or long lasting. I haven't met anyone that hasn't experienced it on pretty much every model on the tech page i'm a member of on FB. They all got it. But it usually goes away. Mine did (EVGA) after like 2 weeks of use.

I have two eVGA as SLI setup, my brother as two Zotacs as SLI Setup. We both are happy with our cards. I like that the eVGA are quiet, the fan won't even start below 61-65°C. Furthermnore, the 1.367 MHz boosted GPU Clock of the eVGA is nice.

Like notarget wrote, all 970s are great, just compare what features you prefer.

Having tested both the Asus and the MSI variants, the MSI is actually the quieter of the two. I do realise this is a change from the norm of Asus being the quietest.

That's surprising. Checked some benches and the data seems to agree:

Has anyone seen an EVGA or G1 970, or really, any 970 for $300? With a special/student discount or something. I've been looking for ages.

Coil whine is no problem in games, but if you mine bitcoins and run games at 500-1000FPS+ you will hear it.

Every card have coil whine. You just have to know what sound to look for. It's not loud but it is there. Only thing that matter is if you can hear it or not.
