Anyone use/recommend a Alienware laptop/gaming laptop that they play WoW on I'm going from a desktop within the following year so looking for suggestions/recommendations/advice.

The issue with most is that theyre overpriced mostly. In my experience theyre not bad laptops, but the argument always comes up "You can build a destop for way less blah blah blah."

As long as the laptop has a discrete GPU then it's basically a gaming laptop. For that price you couldn't go wrong with any of these. I like the Gigabyte one cause it's orange.

The gaming laptops go with the high turbo I7's and any card above the x60m type. (760m/860m/870m and so on).

The same thing in Alienware UK doesnt exist cause they dont have the 900 series chips yet, and the same as above costs about 2.000 pounds, basically you are paying 500-700 pounds because its called Alienware which has worst stats.

You DO NOT BUY ALIENWARE PRODUCTS IF YOU ARE AN INTELLIGENT BEING.

If you arent sure about the "Have them make one for you" and want it 100% ready because for whatever reason you dont want/dont trust i will only look into ASUS ROG Laptops, they are the top shit in their category and arent overpriced like Alienware but again they havent been upgraded to the 900 series chip.

Also, if you want to since the budget with those laptops allows it, you can even just have 16GB RAM which comes to 1,401,60 pounds.

Alienware are basically the Apple of Windows. You pay for the brand, not the hardware. Nothing especially bad with them... But you can get far better for much cheaper.

Typically yes, in addition to low quality PSUs. It's why you'll rarely see a brand specified for either one on their desktops if ever.

Alienware is expensive, but on the positive side Alienware (Dell) has international warranty and better customer service than 90% of the Sager/Clevo builders.

Most of the overpricing in Alienware/Dell/Apple comes from options. If you find nice enough pre-built package or clearance of last year model it could be very aggressively priced. Just keep in mind to buy things like SSD from third party and install it yourself instead of paying 200% extra for Dell option.

I have an alienware. I can honestly say it was a mistake. I bought it for the portability, but to be quite honest it isn't very portable. It's heavy, has a brick of a charger and the battery dies in less than a half hour if I'm gaming with it unplugged. Besides that, it's alright when used as a desktop, but of course you can build a computer that works just as well or better for cheaper. If money isn't an issue, then why not. It's a nice toy.

High end gaming laptops of any and all brands average less than 60 minute battery life with both CPU and GPU maxed out.
If you expected anything else you're badly mistaken.

I'd recommend PC Specialist. All their machines are Clevo base machines.

I've not had good experience with Clevo based products but then again I haven't had good experience with laptops peroid. I've went from Clevo to HP products and got nothing but bad experience. I had an Alienware that was Clevo and it had solder joint issues. Before that Prostar laptop that was also a Clevo with solder joint issues. Compaq and HP laptops with AMD Turions that also had bad solder joint issues. Mostly GPU related solder issues with the exception of the Clevo's, which also had chipset solder issues on top of the GPU.

The solution has always been the same. Use liquid flux on the chip and use a heatgun on it. With the exception of the Compaq, this method wouldn't work due to some red glue they used that expanded from the heat. Had to replace the motherboard twice. I eventually settled on a Intel CPU over AMD cause the heat issue was less despite the Intel board was still using an AMD GPU.

The problem is usually because for some reason they use thermal pads for the GPU, which is unlike your desktop graphics card that uses direct copper contact with thermal paste. Not even good quality thermal pads either, which allows the GPU to retain a lot of heat. Even then, a lot of times it's just some aluminum metal sticking far away from the heat pipe that makes contact with the GPU with the thermal pad.

So make sure the cooling solution is done well with whatever laptop you buy. For example, look for tear down videos and see how the coolers are like. Best I could find from a FANGBook EVO HX6. Not an HX7 but if they didn't screw this model up I doubt they would on the HX7. But they do have 2 heat pipes coming from the GPU. That's pretty good.

I think just about all manufacturers had a lot of issues with the first few generations of products using lead-free solders. They're more difficult to work with than lead solders and tin whiskers are also a problem.

He wants a laptop. So unless there's a way to do that, he has to buy one. Though, I'd love to be able to build my own laptop. Like literally buying a case, CPU, and motherboard separately based on some ATX laptop standard.
