You are not forced to do so. People may not like to be inconvenienced but it is a lot better than supporting someone as awful as EA.

Tried contacting ubisoft customer support, they didnt bother giving me a jackshit of help, and told me to do the same thing that i could read on countless forum threads where there were complaints from people struggling with the same issues.

You should've contacted Valve's CS, since you bought the game via Steam. Good luck getting anything useful out of that though.
