Best thing since sliced bread: the new Sling TV!

    http://www.engadget.com/2015/01/05/sling-tv-announced/

Words can't express how excited I am for this. Goodbye $100 a month DirectTV bill, and hello on-demand internet TV sub!

I love it, this is disruptive for sure. Suck it, cable.

Expect this to be a major issue for the whole net neutrality thing.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

Yeah, I can definitely see Comcast throttling this.

Once its out and reviewed I may give it a try if quality is high and bandwidth usage is low. Cable from Comcast be expensive!

I may or may not partake. I haven't really felt that I've been missing the standard TV channels since I stopped cable service back in 2011.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

There are a hand full of shows I like to watch, mostly on the various Discovery and Food Network family of channels.

Generally speaking, there's maybe one or two shows I'd like to watch that I can't stream, and I'd mostly prefer to pay the $35 a few times a year and just buy those on iTunes rather than pay a monthly fee for a tidal wave of crap with 1-2 gems in it. The shit tidal wave is slightly more appealing when it's only $20/month rather than $80+ though.

ESPN and its satellites are generally considered high viewership channels, as are TBS, TNT, HGTV, and Food Network.

No? Are you thinking of Aereo tv? That was very different. That was a company that rented digital antennas and streamed the output from them via the internet. Which to me was legally OK, but the courts said otherwise.

In this case, unlike with Aereo, Dish has contracts with the various networks for content. They're just removing the need for a satellite. Which makes sense since the content is already digital, so why not just use the interwebs?

Ah, I just remembered that Aereo's hardware was called a Slingbox. I haven't had subscription TV in like a decade, so I'm out of the loop.
