i think you had made a mistake, why using the h97 anniversary without a g3258? it cost aroung 5x - 70$ and with the anniversary board anyone can overclock just add a evo 212, a r9 280 and you will have a much better wow machine.

With his/hers, would not be able to play everything on ultra everywhere but you should be able to get a much smoother experience.

I dont see a mistake, particularly. Overlocking simply does NOT give you that much extra performance (go look at Tom's and Anandtech's benchmarks, where often times a 400-800 Mhz overlock gives sub-5% performance gains) compared to the extra threads of the i3; if he were on a super-budget (sub 500$), sure, the G3258 is a great CPU, but you're literally saving him 30$ for no real-world performance gain at all (other than perhaps the slightly better GPU) but as he will also be using this machine as a daily-driver, the extra 2 threads in the i3 will be FAR more useful, as will the fact that i3 has about half a dozen multimedia instruction sets that have been removed from the Pentium-G line, which will make it much more snappy in daily use.
