Argentine prosecutor shot point blank in forehead: official "Not a Suicide"

This seemed like something out of a movie. Terrorists bombed a synagogue in Argentina killing many Jewish worshippers there. Come to find out the Argentinian government of the time negotiated the deal with Iran to allow the terrorists to attack the synagogue. The deal was for Iran to provide Argentina with cheap oil

Nisman was found dead with a bullet to the head in his Buenos Aires home on Sunday, just before he was set to go before a congressional hearing to accuse Kirchner and Foreign Minister Hector Timerman of shielding Iranian officials implicated in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center that killed 85 people.

It was Argentina's worst terror attack in modern history. It has never gone to trial fully. Several pretrials were cancelled amid serious irregularities involving judges and Argentine intelligence staff.

Investigators, who initially said Nisman appeared to have committed suicide, have not ruled out homicide or "induced suicide."

Kirchner, meanwhile, has said she believes the 51-year-old was murdered in a plot to implicate her government in a coverup.

Nisman contended that the government had agreed to swap grain for oil with Tehran in exchange for withdrawing "red notices" to Interpol seeking the arrests of the former and current Iranian officials accused in the unsolved case.

Since 2006, Argentine courts have demanded the extradition of eight Iranians, including former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, former defense minister Ahmad Vahidi and Iran's former cultural attache in Buenos Aires, Mohsen Rabbani, for the bombing.

Some shady business going on there. We might have to invade and take the oil!

That line about how it never went to trial because of Irregulatiries with judges and inteligence? That is just ridiculous.

    Update somewhat;

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has announced plans to disband Argentina's intelligence agency.

In a TV address, she said she would draft a bill to set up a new body.

Ms Fernandez said the intelligence services had kept much of the same structure they had during the military government, which ended in 1983.

The move comes after the mysterious death of prosecutor Alberto Nisman - hours before he had been due to testify against senior government officials.

He had been investigating the bombing of a Jewish centre in the capital in 1994 which left 85 people dead.

Mr Nisman, 51, had accused several senior government figures - including President Kirchner and Foreign Minister Hector Timerman - of involvement in a plot to cover up Iran's alleged role in the bombing.

    'Combating impunity'
"I have prepared a bill to reform the intelligence service," President Fernandez said, adding that she wanted the proposal to be discussed at an urgent session of Congress.

"The plan is to dissolve the Intelligence Secretariat and create a Federal Intelligence Agency," she said that a new leadership should be chosen by a president but would be subject to a Senate approval.

"Combating impunity has been a priority of my government," she added.

Mr Nisman was found dead on 18 January in his flat in Buenos Aires. A gun was also discovered there.

Investigators initially said they believed he had committed suicide, but later said they could not rule out homicide or "induced suicide".

Ms Fernandez has said she is convinced Mr Nisman's death death was not suicide.
