Recently a woman in California recanted her story of being raped while she was in high school. The accused spent 5 years in prison, and another 5 years on probation. She also won a $750k judgement from the school district.
Since her recantation, the school has sued for it's money back (and then some), but Banks (the accused) lost 5 years of his life, including the chance to play college football. Those 5 years are some of the best in a person's life (for some, at least).
Do you think the accuser should be given the same prison punishment? Do you think the facts in this case are dramatic enough to warrant such a harsh punishment?
And how do you think it affects those women who are raped? Easier or harder to come forward?
(apologies earlier for the harsher version of this thread - hopefully this will lead to a more productive discussion of the issues)
