Question (BE VERY SPECIFIC): My guild asked me to switch from my mage to my DK alt a bit over a month as we were light on melee at the time for raiding. So keep in mind, I don't have my fully upgraded legendary ring (work in progress) and I'm still under-geared and/or unoptimized in some areas (chest trinkets, ect). Having said that, I don't think my DPS should be as low as it is. I've used AMR to do some combat log comparisons, but honestly I'm not very good at deciphering what I need to pivot on as far as changing my behavior. I've noticed that usually the amount of damage done by others FS and HB are considerably higher than my own.

I got my 4 piece last week which has helped some, but not as much as I'd expect. Any advice to help me become a bit less mediocre? Thanks!

So basically what you're saying is just keep that one UH rune always recycling? You don't want to be burning both of the UH runes?
And with 4set, I understand I pool resources; would that also mean the Blood Tap charges that build up from not overcapping RP.

Yep you got it on UH runes.

For 4 set you are looking to pool RP, so go ahead and do everything else normally, but try to keep RP so that you can use it when KM is proc'ed and be able to Frost Strike as long as the buff sticks around.

Read through some of the other recent posts on here for some tips.

I'd get rid of the Crit trinket asap, as you have a ton of crit and it's our worst stat.

The only big thing I can see on your parses is, you aren't using bloodtap or plague leech enough. There are a few spots where you are capped on BT charges for quite a long time, as well as a few fights you are missing over 1/3rd of the PL you could have used. This is a ton of resources you are missing out on, which in turn is a ton of damage.

It's not a matter of gear, that's for sure. He has a decent amount of multistrike throughout his gear, and although his weapon isn't ideal, the rest of his gear seems fine.

I would recommend using Breath on that fight over Necrotic Plague, although NP isn't completely worthless. The problem, however, is he overvalues Festering Strike. The majority of his runes are being spent on Festering Strikes over Scourge Strikes, even when his NP is perfectly long enough to match his Unholy Blight's CD. Ideally he would spend more runes on Scourge Strikes.

He also doesn't cast Soul Reaper nearly enough, and should be his highest priority for rune spending abilities.

He also is spending runes on Blood Boil to spread diseases to adds that are already right next to the boss (NP will jump to these targets manually), and tosses in a few extra Blood Boils. Blood Boil should be used primarily for 3+ target situations, or only to spread diseases to far away targets that NP would otherwise not jump to.

He only casted 1 AMS throughout the entire fight. You can AMS to gain pretty substantial amounts of RP throughout a fight. For some reason Chains of Ice was cast, as well as 3 death strikes.

His pet transformation uptime could use some work too. It doesn't make a huge impact considering he doesn't have 4P tier bonus, but he should get in the habit of pooling ~90 RP worth of Death Coils towards the end of his pet transformation so he can instantly transform his pet again when it wears off. Pet transformation uptime plays a large role in your overall DPS once you obtain the tier bonuses.

Question (BE VERY SPECIFIC):
I took a break after H ToT and at that point in time I was parsing relatively high. I've been back since 6.2 and had a lot of catching up to do. Currently my problem is my casts per minute are very low. I raid with another DK and he has been doing his best to help me figure out what the problem is (other than no ring and a big of a gear difference between us). I seem to be doing just about everything else correctly, but for some reason I just can not do the proper amount of damage. I have improved over the last month, but I'm still not where I should be/need to be. I know it's got to be related to my low casts per minute.

Any advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

One thing I'm certain is that my SR usage is simply horrible, but besides that I don't know what to do to improve myself. I'm looking at your Kormrok logs right now. Work on Soul Reaper usage. You have times where there is 10 seconds between uses. 8 is understandable, but should never be higher, and you'd like to see them at 7 or less gaps between all. Hold a rune for it, always. Or, if you run Blood Tap, you can always tap/reaper.

Never FeS strike something like an add. Your GCD would be better used hitting it on Kormrok if you have B/F as runes, or double SS if you have death runes. Ideally, as NP, you should never even target the hands, provided your raid's cleave is good. It is more effective DPS to simply BB twice and continue your rotation on Kormrok.

Make sure you are lining CDs up together if possible. If you know you are going to get 3 trinket uses and 2 garg uses, either delay your garg for third trinket, or delay second trinket for garg, and attempt to line THAT up with lust/combat pot. The huge burst increase is well worth it.

I can't look TOO extremely in depth while I'm at work, but I've been playing NP since BRF launch and everything looks pretty normal.

Primary things:

FeS with F/B only, unless you are <15 seconds left on NP and >18 seconds left on UB coming back up. (some fights this varies slightly. Use discretion. Also, here, pleague Leech helps, as when the hands spawn, you can BB/PL/BB NP back onto Kormrok and lose next to 0 uptime and gain 2 free runes.)

Drop D&D out ~2 seconds before hands spawn. That will do more damage than the unholy rune would have otherwise. Avoid using a death as it can cause a hung out to dry frost or blood rune.

Generally speaking, gear: Multi>Mast>>crit=haste>vers for NP.

The HC version will be BiS in a HC setup. And I think it scales very well at the HC version as well. I dont have any version of it though, so never tested.

I primarily play frost, however I've started to see higher rankings of unholy. Is frost still what I should play on some fights, or will unholy become the better scaling spec at my gear?

I have been trying to play around on some fights with BoS, however I seem to always do better with necrotic plague. I don't think I'm using BoS correctly. I have a WA that tracks it.. and it usually shows up BoS only doing 400k. Is this normal?

For your current Trinkets, go with Mythic UeH. The disparity between Heroic EDH and Mythic Pebble is very negligible. Reliable getting 30 Stacks on EDH is very hard for Unholy without Defile, so don't aim to get there. If you want to play it safe, go with Pebble.

Yes, Heroic Vial is still better than any Mythic Trinkets for BoS. I still use it myself together with Mythic UeH, with very good results.

You're currently Blood in your armory, but I guess you don't change to much besides Trinkets and DPS Ring.
Unholy will definitely scale better with Gear than Frost does.

Trinket-Setup for Unholy:
Cleave/AoE - NP - Reaper's Harvest + DC (or Vial if your Guild uses the Ring when priority targets are up, e.g. Hands on Kormrok, Birds on Iskar)
Singletarget - BoS - Vial of Convulsive Shadows (even if it's only heroic) + UeH. Use BoS + Trinket when Ring is up.

Considering your gear, 400k on one BoS usage is extremely low. BoS is not the easiest ability to play, but if you practice it you should get there, eventually.
I'd say that with your gear and decent AMS soaking, you should pull around 900K with your first BoS, and 700k on subsequent uses.

You don't go unholy before having 4p AND archimonde trinket. In every case before that DW frost is better and he has only 690ilvl gear there.

Checked another log

1) not enough soul reapers; almost doesn't use them
2) combat log without advanced logging so cannot confirm but possible he capped resources
3) he overcapped BT a lot of times for quite a long time
4) does he not know how to play festerblight ?
5) it seems he has no unholy blight for festerblight
