For the Grull fight you were using Blood Boil on a single target fight, you should never use Blood Boil on a single target fight. I don't think you should be using DnD on a ST fight either. Your Scourge Strikes so be so much higher on a single target fight, way above NP. I had 66 counts of SS on my recent log of Grull on Heroic, you only had 39. The way I do it is to use FS to change my blood and frost runes to death and just spam SS, should be easier if you just do that.

Question: As you can see, I'm a pretty run-of-the-mill, moderate ranking DK, but on fights with cleave, I'm not sure if I'm using FS too much and losing DPS that could otherwise be used to SS... I seem to be fine with pure cleave as seen on the beastlord kill, but when it comes to Kromog, I'm pretty poor, we do run pretty small groups though, so cleave damage wont be as big as it can get, and I do end up staying in grasps for as long as I can to help save others first (running LB, even then, my cleave breaks me through before I take tremendous amounts of damage). Same story with Flamebender. I am very cautious with taking excess damage, and I might miss a couple seconds on say Flamebender with moving from dogs breath etc, but i also keep NP stacks nearly all fight, and if not, then I usually back it up with UB to get them stacks again. I know I can better myself with BoS on Gruul, that's just my laziness. Oregorger is getting better each week, managing to find him at intersections and dumping runes on FS to keep his stacks up, I soak a couple of shards too during the fight. Thogar seems to be pretty average too, but I think I disregard my dps a bit on it because of running from bombs etc, i do try and throw an outbreak onto the cannons too for a lil bit of cheese. Hanz and Franz is very frustrating for me, I just can't seem to pull good numbers, I put that down to the boss being far from reach each stamp phase, there isn't much team coordination when it comes to that phase, we all just focus on surviving it. Any tips would be great, specifically for cleave fights. I like to perform my best and other than Gruul, I do try hard. Cheers.

Your kromog one was pretty easy to identify.

Click on yourself and go to about a minute in. Notice that when the hands spawn, the one you target has a single stack of necrotic plague on it. This means that you're spreading a non 15 stack to all the hands which, needless to say, is a massssssive dps loss. What you want to do is extend a 15 stack on kromog to last as long as the hands will be alive, so like 15-20seconds or so left on it when they spawn. Then you want to not apply another disease when you get grabbed, and instead bloodboil to spread a 15 stack to all the hands.

If you're curious about the particulars on Kromog, http://www.twitch.tv/ktz385/c/6393088. At the time of recording that was the #1 UH parse for it. Essentially the trick is to line up np to last as long as you need it to spread to anything, which on mythic includes pillars, but on norm/heroic only means you want it to last through the hand phase.

Specific Quetion: I just started back from over a year of not playing. I feel like I have the basics back down, but even after gearing up decently, I'm not feeling my DPS is to where it should be. Getting used to Necroblight still, which is fun but different. I can tell my DPS could be better, but I feel like I'm generally following his advice. What am I doing wrong? The other DK in our raid is destroying me (and everyone else). He's also more than 10 ilvl above me, but still.

Hey there Amenaphis, you don't want to switch to BoS 100% of the time, its pretty boss specific. I do see you tried it on Gruul but it looks like you didn't get to ams soak much to lengthen the duration, that is something you'll want to do if you are going for some top parses. That being said a lot of the top 200 ranks use NP, its just about cutting the duration really close and making sure you are maximizing your runes (SS/SR over Fes; Only fes to make sure NP stays up till UB comes off CD). Summonstone.com has a boss by boss guide of which talents and glyphs are good on each fight. (Example: Don't use BoS on Beastlord as it looks like you did in your most recent kill)

Another thing to work on is how you manage your runes with blood tap while playing UB/NP. This is a huge boon on fights like Beastlord where you can game 6 death runes and fire FeS strikes off till adds come out, then fire off 6 blood boils for a lot of burst. This same theory applies to Kromog and the hand phase.

I frequently deal with lag issues and run with UB/NP on Gruul. I run it on Oregorger as well because I enjoy the chasing FeS playstyle, it reminds me of Thok. As such you'd be comparing your BoS logs to my UB/NP logs.

You can choose a boss, specify Foxes, and then on the graph you can click on and off all of the abilities used during a fight to see where they were used, how much damage they were doing and how many times they were cast (you could do the same for someones logs with BoS on the fights if you do want to keep using that talent, it is the coolest) and then get a rough idea of how you want to be spending your runes/ runic power.

Overall, I think giving summonstone.com a solid read, then doing a bit of log research will set you on the right path but above all, just run a ton of instances with any group you can find.

First off the other DK Bierstadt is just going to be above you there's no questioning that. Not only does he have much better gear then you but because of that gear he has a lot better secondaries, his haste is a lot lower, MS ~10% higher, and he has 1/3 the amount of Vers you have. Just with the better gear comes better secondaries because BRF has really good gear for Unholy in Normal+. you have plenty of gear from BRF but its not the MS/Mastery items we usually get, so probably luck of the draw on that.


Gruul - you had slightly low uptime on NP, 93.84%, since it's a very patchwork like fight it should be as near 100% as possible. If you didn't get Spoony's WA for Necroblight then I suggest you do as it helps balance when you need to FS and SS. You missed at least 4 Soul Reapers from going off based on looking at the other DK's use (he got 14 you got 10). Other then those looks about fine.
(Actually side note the other DK also had around the same uptime of NP, so he could improve that as well).


Looking at various fights it straight just looks like it's more of a gear difference compared to rotation or such. You pretty much are super close to the other DK in terms of ability use and everything, just you obviously have a lot less gear so you have less oopmh. I would say once you gear up more you will probably catch up to him easily.

on blackhand you used breath of sindragosa, but to do good dps with breath of sindragosa you need a very good uptime on it, i cant give you a better answer right now because browsing logs on my phone is impossible but tonight ill take a closer look, also if you could upload your logs to warcraftlogs i would appreciate it
