"ASUS Anti-Surge detected an unstable power supply" help please?

"ASUS Anti-Surge detected an unstable power supply unit on the last power-up." is a message I got last friday when the computer just shut down and rebooted. I'm pretty bad with computers and it's annoying me a lot! When I try to boot up the computer sometimes it works for 2-3 hours then it just shuts down again and I can't boot it up properly.

I got some new parts for my computer 2 months or so ago where I replaced the GPU, CPU and Motherboard and it has worked totally fine until now.

    Old Parts were:

    MB: Asus P8P67 Deluxe, Socket-1155
    CPU: Intel i7 2600K
    GPU: Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti

    New Parts are:

    MB: ASUS Z97-P, Socket-1150
    CPU: Intel i7 4770K
    GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970

    Other parts are:
    RAM: Kingston 16GB DDR3 1866MHz (4x4) HyperX
    PSU: Corsair CX 750M, 750W

I googled solutions to this problem but half of the people tell me to replace the PSU while other tell me to disable the anti-surge option and/or update BIOS.

    Any help?

updating the bios should be the first step for sure
it COULD be a bug in the bios, if thats the case, this is the way to fix it.

i dont know that surgeprotector, but i think if the problem persists after a biosupdate, you should get a new psu.

it still could be a false detection, but if you turn it off the psu could fry your whole system. and that would be more expansive and you would still need a new psu

    Personally I'd replace it.
I've had that trigger go off before and yes the PSU was bad.
    CX750 isn't that great of a PSU.

google searched your error, and the first post at the top claimed he fixed the problem, by opening the case and double checking every connection that comes from the PSU, try that before you do anything else

Already did that but it didn't fix the problem. That was probably the first thing I did.

I live in sweden and perhaps 100€ (about $115) is the most I can go for a PSU right now, I can maybe fork out some more but that depends if it's really worth it

Just search it on http://prisjakt.se I mostly use that site because it lists pretty much every product from all sweden stores and it lists which store sells a specific item the cheapest and so on. Sweden sites that are biggest in electronics that I use would probably be http://komplett.se and http://webhallen.com. :P

Get any of the G2 models from EVGA. The 750w G2 will run you between $80-$100. Or get any SeaSonic PSU, as they are one of the best PSU Mfr's. Lot of Brands use SeaSonic parts in their PSU's. Depending if it's on sale or not. PSU's are not made the same. SOme with cheap parts, the good ones with good quality parts.

    The XFX is Seasonic OEM.

+1 for SeaSonic, their PSUs are awesome. Alot of PSU brands are actually SeaSonic PSU rebranded but it's best to go with the original brand.
    Warrax, Fury Warrior
    Silika, BM Hunter

Before buying anything, push the PSU power cable (the one that goes from the outlet to the PSU) firmly into your PSU, and the otherside firmly into the outlet. Also, don't kick the cable.

Cutting power to the PSU can trigger ASUS Anti-Surge.

Another + for SeaSonic, proud owner now for several years!

Glad to have moved away from Corsair, not going to lie.

4-5 years ago My apartment had major electrical problems (circuit breaker popping many times a day randomly) and killed my 1200AX but corsair RMA without hassel (had to pay $30 for return shipping grumble grumble) the replacement has been rock solid since and I have an 750TX thats even older and still going strong.

Having said all that though I will be replacing them with Seasonics at some point. Corsair does have some good units though it all depends on finding the good ones and what price they can be had for compared to a Seasonic or Seasonic OEM
