Why would you want people that watch Fox News to visit your city anyway? Hardly seems like a disservice was done.
Paris is just wasting money, under 1st amendment, government entities cannot sue for defamation and US courts will not enforce judgements made in other countries in 1st A cases unless the respondent was afforded protection equivalent to US laws.
So it is all just a publicity stunt. Unless Fox has assets in France and French court agrees to hear the case.
For a more detailed explanation see: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/v...h-no-go-zones/
Should that lawsuit happen? Nope..... I think it's a joke....
But the OP talks about a lawsuit in French court.
US law bears no relevancy for that matter.
Whether FOX has assets in France, idk. should be easy to find out tho...
And a successful lawsuit could result in future visits from FOX teams in France being very difficult, if their equipments getting seized due to outstanding debts..
That's now just theoretical toying with the legal backgrounds.
Generally I think Paris would make itself look rather silly tho if they'd follow through with a court case

yes! Brilliant idea, they'd never notice

No idea what French defamation law is, but if it is anything like in my own country, then the court will probably toss it out on the grounds of Paris lacking standing to sue in France and directing it to sue in US.
No matter how it goes though, Fox wins. Paris will look incredibly silly and Fox will make a story about socialists trying to silence it.
This sounds quite a bit different

Interesting read, but it's also very diffuse.
I've lived in one of those areas, there wasn't a massive amount of immigrants there, maybe 15%, but the population has a pretty romantic view on drugs, and with drugs I mean cannabis mostly, both marijuana and hasch, hence why it's discribed as an area where the criminal networks have great influence in the local community, no one would rat out the guy that sells them their weed, the police can't stop it, but they can't ignore it either, since it's illegal and considered a drug offense. They are shit out luck.
It's pretty much impossible to rent a flat in the area, you gotta buy, it's far from the most expensive area, but I would say you need to pay at least 250 000 - 375 000 $/€ for a "decent" sized flat(and it can go higher then that obviously), and upwards 1 million for the villas/houses that are located in the most western part of the "district". I really liked the place, a very nice community, but loads of lefties... and loads of ganja.
Some photos.
The nerve is called the "nerve of awareness". You cant dissect it. Its a current that runs up the center of your spine. I dont know if any of you have sat down, crossed your legs, smoked DMT, and watch what happens... but what happens to me is this big thing goes RRRRRRRRRAAAAAWWW! up my spine and flashes in my brain... well apparently thats whats going to happen if I do this stuff...

Well, this is French-bashing once more from Fow news and lots of media all over the world.... As a French guy, i won't deny there are lots of places (especially in what we call "suburban areas" = all-around Paris) where you don't really feel safe being Caucasian and if you happen to be a woman i'm sure that's even worse (same could be said for a bunch of other countries as well i guess). Anyway, i'm pretty sure traveling agencies are clever enough to not take tourists on such neighbourhoods : i've recently watched a documentary about Chinese tourists who were housed in the suburbs : many times, they were robbed and so on...
And Paris is still fine (being the much-visited place it is [ + the embassies, presidential palace .....] there are way more policemen in the streets than anywhere else in the country when compared to awful cities such as Marseille : when you go there, you'd hardly think you were in France.................once more, i'm sure this is true for many cities in Europe (and i guess in the US too, it is common knowledge that places like Chicago, Detroit, St-Louis are dangerous cities with very insecure neighbourhoods) so let's stop being such hypocrites about that.....
Only country i've lived in where i felt safe was Ireland (not saying every place in Ireland is secure). One problem is those 'no-go' zones (for want of a better term) are being fled and are left in the hands of those sons of Algerians who do hate this old -that used to be quite a nice place to live in- country and so on (who are, as a matter of fact, French citizens.......).
As to the Maire's claim.....She's such an idiotic woman, of course the city of Paris's reputation has been tarnished but it would have been soiled by the terrorist attacks anyway. If they can prove the attitude of Fow news has been nothing but the follow-up of a traditional French-bashing trend, that could do it for the "malicious intention". Of course, selling stuff using people's fear has always been media's favorite tool.
As for a possible lawsuit in French courts...

Fox says something stupid, Paris responds by doing something dumber. Interesting...
