Russian bombers skimming UK airspace... again

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31530840

So yesterday two Russian bombers were escorted away from UK airspace by RAF fighter jets after being spotted off the coast of Cornwall, and this is far from the first time. Less than a month ago two more Russian bombers were escorted away after circling halfway around the British Isles, disrupting civil aircraft in the process.

I mean, you don't get much more blatantly antagonistic than this. Being British I find it pretty damn offensive. How would you feel if someone crept up to your house and started waving a knife around in front of your living room window? Whether they intend to barge in and stab you or not, you're going to be pretty pissed off and wonder what the fuck is wrong with them.

In a civilized world, you simply do not do this to other countries.

Just what do you think they're trying to prove? Is this Russia trying to prove that they're "hard"? Testing our defences? Or are they actually trying to incite something?

They always do this. Its pretty standard for them to fly along in their old beat up bombers and get turned away. Its a bit more prevalent atm due to Mr Putins reported shenanigans in the Ukraine.

In a reference to World War II, Mr Cameron said that the world must “learn the lessons of history” and intervene to stop “a larger state bullying a smaller state”.

He said: "Russian action in Ukraine is unacceptable. We have to be clear about what we are dealing with. It is a large state bullying a smaller state in Europe.
Cameron is one of the biggest anti-Russian shills in Europe. His foreign policy boils down to parroting Obama. Vote him out of office and maybe they will stop treating you like a threat.

Ironically, that may be part of why Russia is so keen on showing off their military hardware. The US and NATO has been slowly moving their assets further and further east, and with Ukraine apparently wanting to join NATO, they'll be right on Russia's own borders. The Long Range Aviation unit is Russia's only means of responding in kind, as the last time they tried a similar move, the US threatened nuclear war if they kept it up (the Cuban Missile Crisis).

Yes, it's entirely due to Cameron and not Russia trying to pretend they aren't impotent.

But Kim Il Putler is such a peace loving man. Kremlins intention of either violating or close to violating airspace is all misunderstood.
But soon after Mr Xi secured a third term, Apple released a new version of the feature in China, limiting its scope. Now Chinese users of iPhones and other Apple devices are restricted to a 10-minute window when receiving files from people who are not listed as a contact. After 10 minutes, users can only receive files from contacts.
Apple did not explain why the update was first introduced in China, but over the years, the tech giant has been criticised for appeasing Beijing.

They need to take a lesson from North Korea if they really want to learn to sabre rattle.

    What are you talking about?

Why do you think we throw warships about Gibraltar when the spanish pipe up and the Falklands when ther Argies mouth off, or position them off countries we want to pressure?

Its a legit tactic that every country that can project military power does.

Standard procedures, nothing to see here. Its all posturing.

Or qualified repairs and maintenance, they look a bit old to be honest
I'm sure there are some historical restoration enthusiasts located in England.

Of course it's not only because of Cameron. Britain has always been anti-Russian. So much so that there is a saying "The only thing worse than a feud with the Anglo-Saxon is friendship with them" while Britain has the anti-Russian Song "By Jingo" which coined the term Jingoism.

Getting rid of Cameron would be a step in the right direction though.

you're assuming world war 3 has to be between the US and Russia.

ISIS spreading like a pandemic and the increasing conflict in Ukraine will eventually turn into a world war. There are absolutely ZERO signs of either of the conflicts abating, in fact they are both growing rapidly. and the west is looking the other way, almost 100%.

Slightly different to the Falklands and Gibraltar, as the Russians don't have any claim to Cornwall. The hippy surfers, old grannies and six-fingered farmers down there aren't people you'd want to claim as your own.

Big whoop. Most European countries spy fly around other countries and spy on them too. So does the US.
But when big bad Russia does it, get under the covers.

It's news to the British that we've always been anti-Russian.

Thanks Cryban, without you we'd never know who we supposedly dislike.
