    Laptop fan not working.

What happens when my laptops fan stop working. It keeps crashing giving me an error telling me the fan isn't working. Is it replaceable?

The first thing I would do is see if it is simply if the fan is blocked by dust or hair. Might be worth cleaning/blowing out.

If the fan is actually jammed, a lot of them can be replaced, but it's usually not as simple as 'replacing a part'. Chances are you'll need to disassemble the majority of the laptop.

    What model is it?

I tried opening up the case but it wouldn't let me. I removed all the necessary screws but there was still something holding it together towards the middle. Couldn't figure out what it was. The fan isn't spinning at all. So it's either jammed or broken. I couldn't see it from the places I was able to open the case. I shouldn't have even messed with it. After unplugging the SSD that I installed a while ago, it gives me an error saying that the Boot Device Not Found. (3F0) Sigh... this laptop is shit either way.

You'll sometimes find there are screws on the back that hold the keyboard in place, removing the keyboard will then reveal a couple more screws holding the back in place from that side.

I removed all the screws that I could see. The keyboard wasn't budging. So I have no idea how to remove it.

You could do something like http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01657439 before you try to disassemble.
Disassembling could be hard and assembling it back maybe harder than that.

I figured out how to take it apart. There were latches that held the keyboard in place. I removed that and found more screws. I finally managed to take apart the whole laptop. I found the fan and removed it. Even the copper part above the CPU. Not sure if that was a good idea or not. Now I need to find a replacement fan. So that's what I'm searching up now. If this doesn't work I'm going to assume the laptop is dead. lol in that case I might come asking for a nice replacement laptop that can last me a while.

That blows, I just have to remove a panel to get to mine and pop the fan out.

Some manufacturers make stuff super accessible, others don't.

When I took apart my brother's HP super overheated laptop it was rather hard to get anything out. The Lenovo X230 I have is really simple compared to it. You simply can't get to the fan without removing a lot of crap for the HP.

You'll likely need a pry tool to get the keyboard out. Look around the top of the keyboard and you should see some prying spots. Just don't break your keyboard doing it. You'll need something thin

Theresa couple of guides on YT on how to do this type of thing. Had to watch one or two when I recently fixed a laptop for someone.

    Edit -

LoL after watching how to remove / clean the fan I would highly suggest that you take it to a specialist PC repair shop if you have never done this type of thing before. That is a BITCH of a tear down compared to others I have seen.

Ugh i hate tearing down HP laptops, it's the worst!

Back on topic, since you pulled off the copper part(Heat sink) as well you will need to clean both the CPU and the heat sink before you put it back on and put down some new thermal paste. If you don't do a decent job of this you will get absolutely no cooling from the fan/heat sink. There are tons of videos online of how to apply thermal paste correctly. The paste itself shouldn't cost you more than $15.

Some also have a second pipe going to the GPU, so the same will need to be done there.
