Thread: Recommend a PSU

    Recommend a PSU

    I have been getting a random reboot occasionally and have an entry in my event viewer that says Kernel-Power 41 is the source/ID...From what I was able to gather from my googling, it's likely due to a failing PSU. So unless someone here can help me fix it I'm just gonna replace my PSU.

    Current Build
    HD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
    CPU: AMD FX 8350
    GPU: XFX HD7950
    MoBo: Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
    Heatsink: Cooler Master V8
    RAM: (shouldn't matter...cant remember brand atm tbh...lol 16GB though)
    PSU:Thermaltake Smart M750

    The only real thing I'd want to nitpick for it is I'd really like it to be a modular PSU...just looks much nicer

    It could be a plethora of things actually.

    Id try these first and check temps:

    * Run checkdisk (chkdsk).
    Disk Check

    Hardware tests:

    * CPU - Stress Test with Prime95

    * Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
    Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

    * Mem test 86+
    RAM - Test with Memtest86+

    You can use HWmonitor to check temps. If you have an overclock on your CPU revert that too, it could be tossing this error. It could be your PSU but may as well do these tests first.

    750 is overkill, a good 550-650 is fine.

    Seasonic X series, 80+ Gold

    If you want the 750, here it is.

    Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try to run all those tests tomorrow after work...hopefully that helps me solve my problem. If not...new PSU here I come

    Yeah, I'd also suggest testing it out each component before ruling it as the PSU.

    Otherwise moremana's suggestion is great. I won't lie though, Oklahoma wolf was right when saying the ribboned 12pin is really stiff when compared to a normal sleeved one. Only had chance to work with it once when setting up my brother's computer (I believe it was that one).
    Really nice that SeaSonic and EVGA aren't doing that.
