For what i'm reading, inmersion is great on this game, which is cool, since lately WoW has lost all of this for me. I'm also a big FF games fan, at least from VI to X that is, and some "sub games", but i really love the way stories are told and the worlds where they happen

I bought ARR when it came out. I played it for about a month and could never really get into it. The GCD bothered me the whole time, even when reaching higher levels, the pace was still slow to me. Maybe I chose the wrong class, but I would push a button and then wait, then push another. It didn't really feel like combat was flowing very well.

Also (and this varies from server to server I'm sure), players of FFXIV are some of the nicest players I've ever encountered playing MMOs, sure you've got your dicks here and there, but for the most part I've never really been left wanting for people willing to help me with stuff, or just friendly chats in parties/alliances even if they're pugs, it's nice.

One of the most important things I find is "tripping" the GCD, I play a summoner so this is viable, not sure about others, but basically use an ability that uses the GCD, then follow up with an off-GCD ability, it does help combat at least feel faster, plus it squeezes out extra deeps.

Played WoW since 2006, still play WoW, still sub to FF for every patch.

I enjoy the casual content much more than WoWs. I do enjoy the raiding, but WoW raiding is a bit more friendly on the computer and overall, so I raid in WoW. If all my friends played and raided in FFXIV, I'd prolly not ever want to log into WoW. My FF sub just fell off after two months like yesterday, pretty much played FF during the day, raided in WoW at night.

Over all, I enjoy FFXIV's content more than WoWs, but friends and raiding keep me in WoW. If for some reason I stopped raiding, I'd prolly play FFXIV full time, I just don't really like the whole 30$ for two games every month thing.

All the people commenting on the GCD timers in FFXIV are people who don't really have more than a few hours experience, and thus no real room to complain about anything. The GCD is much reduced at higher levels, and that alone is not a comment on anything except for people's short attention span and ability to accept not everything will just be handed to them (thus the typical terrible WoW player that ruins every game). I personally am glad that the GCD system early on weeds these people out, as it means we don;t have to deal with them when the game starts to get awesome at higher levels.

For me personally, as a person who gave up WoW in this expac because the lack of content and the removal of flight: This game is polished, really fun. The abilities are exciting. The community is a blessing. The content releases put shame on WoW. IF you are a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise: this game is for you. If you are a fan of REAL mmoRPG's: This game is for you. If you are a fan of stifled, same old same old, class imbalance, regression in features, tired, lackluster, no-longer-interested developers: This is not your game.

Thats ok. 14 isn't really anything like previous FF games. I tried 14. Put it down rather quickly. Game was too slow for me.

This is a terrible way to see things. Games are supposed to draw you in from the start and ramp up from there. FF14 did not do this imo. It started out really slow. The first bit of combat you see is after you gain a level or two doing back and forth quests in a city FFS.

It's good from what I played. I haven't played in about a year now so things may have changed since then but I was a pugilist and loved it. Only real drawback for me as a melee in that game was it felt so slow compared to WoW. Now that may just be my personal experience as I never got to max level or played any of the sub classes or whatever they are called.

As a game I thought it was awesome. A bit grindy at times and sometimes I felt like i was running back and forth A LOT more than usual in an MMO but overall I found the experience enjoyable. I have considered coming back to see what has all changed but I just don't want to sub to 2 games and I am not dropping my WoW sub anytime soon. If i ever did come back though I would probably just start completely fresh as a new class.

So overall yeah I enjoyed it quite a bit. Not as much as WoW but still a great deal.

    ARR is a Good game.

It could be a GREAT game if the GCD wasn't 2.5-3 secs. The wait between attacks makes it feel so sluggish at times and as a Tank having to wait 3 secs to react to a new add or a threat pulling DPS can be frustrating.

The one thing holding me back from even looking at it, is the sub fees for it.. Being that I live in Australia and the sub price from what I understand is in euros from what I have been able to find out, I will stick with WoW for the moment as at least I know what my sub is costing me a month and is not subject to currency exchange rates anymore, since Blizzard put their Oceanic servers here in Australia..

I think for the most part if you play as a caster for WoW or any such games the 2.5s GCD isn't that really big of a difference since your cast time is usually 2+ seconds.

All GCD can be reduced by skill / spell speed. Currently my stats have it reduced to 2.38s and with buffs it goes down even lower, of course still higher than 1.5s.
It is definitely slower pace and not at the same time, if that makes any sense.
If anything you can screw around in golden saucer with chocobo racing or triple triad games.

For whatever reason i'm not being able to get the confirmation e-mail to register the trial, and i have tried with different mails and hosts, but it just doesn't send it

Youuuuuuuuu'll... have to fiddle for a while, that's another big complaint and it's not really one with the game itself, but a lot of square's automated services are either really slow or don't work, CS can also be lacking if you don't directly talk to a GM.

Oh, yeah, there's also a free login week for veteran players, so their automated services are probably slower.

Played to Max level Healer Class did all the dungeons, don't assume that everyone that got annoyed by it simply doesn't "know the game" or played it for a single day.

Nobody likes a fanboy and nobody takes one seriously.

That's your opinion, you are entitled to it. I'm just happy, like I said, people who hold that opinion get weeded out early.

I’m an avid FF fan, that might not be strong enough a word actually, closer to obsessed lol. I grew up playing the games, I have so many incredible memories playing it with my mom who has since passed away. It was really the first game other than Mario that I really got into. So there’s my FF background for ya.

I started playing WoW during BC when my boyfriend got me into it. I had never heard of it, or of an MMO for that matter. But I fell in love. The immersion is incredible, the world is 100% explorable. The lore I don’t really care about, not that it’s bad it’s just I’m not really educated in it so it doesn’t really affect me. Mists was my favorite expansion (I know…not popular opinion lol). My sub has run out for a few months here and there over the course of Cata but that’s really it. I did take a bit of a break when FFXIV came out, but I ended going back to WoW.

For me they are 2 totally different games. FF isn’t a WoW killer, in my opinion nothing ever will be that unless Blizzard themselves put out. There are parts of WoW that I would love to see implemented in FF, like get rid of those invisible walls already, I want to explore!! And there are aspects of FF that I would love to see in WoW (dyes, the casino, the crafting system, I could go on).. I haven’t played FF in at least 6 months, so my opinion could very well be outdated. I think after I move next weekend I will resub. I seriously can’t wait to check out the casino and triple triad.

I think WoW is THE masterpiece of the MMO genre, I really do. FFXIV is beautiful, it’s well made, the lore is incredible, the classes impeccable, I absolutely adore it. But it’s still just second best to me. And I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. I can’t wait to see what both games have to bring in the future. The way WoD is leading I will most likely spend some more time in FF, but I will absolutely keep my sub so I can pop back to Azeroth whenever I want to.

What I can't work out is why the double limitations on the trial in that you get to go to level 20 but you only have 14 days as well.. Most other MMO's as far as I know don't go that far in the limitations..

If you're worried with the long gcd, I recommend starting with a caster since many casts take the same time as the gcd, so you won't notice it that much (at least that's what I felt when the game was released) :P
