Bad players?

How do you define "bad"?

WoW has millions of inexperienced and new players - all of us were in that boat at some point - and probably completely oblivious to many of the things which veteran players take as granted or assume to be 'the basics. That doesn't make them "bad" in itself; plenty of weak and inexperienced players take the time to learn and improve; they won't go from their first ever max-level character to Mythic raiding overnight, but given enough time they'll get there.

Many more players also have no interest in being a top/competitive player either, and they just want to fool about in easy content with their friends - that certainly doesn't mean they're "bad"; it just means they find their fun in super-easy content, lose themselves in the fantasy of being a hero in a virtual world filled with monsters, and are unlikely to ever even attempt something which requires skill or knowledge of the game - and more power to those players for being able to find that enjoyment.


The true "bad" players are the ones with a bad attitude who lack respect for others or who take satisfaction in ruining the game for other people through harassment and trolling. Truly 'bad' players are the ones who just can't accept any kind of criticism about themselves but are more than willing to deal it out. The ones who think highly of themselves and can't accept when they need to improve. The ones who are completely unwilling to learn but still want to be accepted into groups for content above their ability. And the ones who generally look down on new/inexperienced players because they view themselves as "better".

The thing about attitudes is that they're usually ingrained into the person. When "bad" players show up with a sour attitude, it's usually down to immaturity or insecurity. Being a good player in a game like WoW really involves having some level of people-skills/social skills and the ability to empathise with others as a prerequisite, Bad players are nearly always the ones who are wrapped up in their own cynicism, arrogance and contempt for other people.
