Poor choice of partner if you ask me, based on how awful the smartphone app is for their manga reading service. Completely incompetently designed.

"Iwata confirmed Nintendo is not considering ports of existing games, but rather new experiences developed for and more suited to smart devices."

I wonder what sort of Experiences they have in mind.

I see lots of freemium games but hopefully we will get indie type titles of older franchises too.

plants vs zombies style advance wars? dr mario, pokemon shuffle... pretty easy to see where its likely heading.

    portable miiverse. yes please.

    People actually like miiverse...?

I wish Nintendo would focus on the gamers instead of all the family friendly party crap they heavily started relying on since Wii. That audience clearly isn't interested in the WiiU at all and I think it's time to get rid of that name completely. So let's not call the next Nintendo "Super Wii U 256" or something.

On a side note, as someone who used to be a die hard Nintendo fan who owned all Nintendo consoles and handhelds, I just wish they would stop making consoles. Rather have them develop for Sony's Playstation. Sony's hardware plus Nintendo's software would be something that is just a match made in heaven imo. That actually makes me jizz my pants haha xd

I'd rather have more competition in the console market. Its bad enough that the Xbone and PS4 are nearly identical and the exclusives are not that good.

Heck if MS didnt bring up DRM before Sony, both consoles would have DRM. I can easily imagine the next gen of consoles bring DRM despite all evidence of how horrible an idea it is.

yep miiverse is awesome. far more enjoyable than anything on my ps4.. the app is horrendous too.

family friendly party crap? do you mean nintendo land, game & wario and mario party the only games that i can think of.. or do you mean nintendo games in general like smash bros and mario kart.

I agree with genngreymane i want the competition.

The saddest part about current gen is that the Wii U is the only dedicated game machine

The other systems dedicate so much screen time to their other services, which can be done by a smart TV, aka the kinda TV everyone is gonna have by the end of the decade.

Wii U can also stream vids and do things beyond gaming as well, putting it in the same position of the other two. That and there is nothing wrong with being able to do more than the primary function. Might as well stick with dedicated cellular phones since smart phones dedicate to other services.

This. The WiiU has a lot of useless crap as well.

The problem with PS4/XB1 is that most of the games that are being released for them are available on PC as well. Doesn't really make them unique. This reflects in my game library as well. I have like 2 games for PS4 where I have 8 for WiiU.

However, I feel that Nintendo games would be so much better on a platform like the PS4. Think about the improved graphical fidelity for example. When Nintendo games are played split- or quadscreen (or even off screen), the quality of the graphics drop so hard it's not even funny. Mario Kart and Hyrule Warriors come to mind. The frame rate drops drastically and the resolution get's decreased too. These games go from 'okay' graphics to shitty graphics in an instant.

Another thing that would improve is the online play. The amount of parental guarding on Nintendo consoles is absolutely insane. If there is decent online play, then you're only form of 'communicating' with someone else is through a battle sentence or just a few pre-set sentences that Nintendo have set for you. Also the options are generally very limited too.

You could also look at the differences in operating systems. The WiiU's OS is so slow and unresponsive it's not even funny. Multitasking is also something that's limited to a few actions.

Nintendo knows how to make games, they just don't know how to build a good console anymore and neither are they able to create a good system os and online play. That's why I rather see them focusing on games, like Sega for example.

The last console from Nintendo I actually loved was the Gamecube. Really loved the controller as well and it's still my favorite to this day. Basically since Iwata took over I lost all faith in Nintendo. I'm also terrified for the future when he speaks about QoL products and now the partnering up with this shitty smartphone company. It's like gaming is becoming a secondary or even a tertiary priority for them.

Hell I must live in an alternate universe all this time where the Wii U has the best netflix and crunchyroll players of the 3 consoles and also lets you program the gamepad to control your TV.

Hell, I'm pretty sure Wii Us come bundled with a free month of hulu+ as well.

    Signs of desperation. /smh

Mobile games ... really? Mobile games are to triple AAA, what 8mm pornography is to a summer blockbuster. You don't do that shit unless you are desperate for $$$ to pay the bills.

And so quickly, Nintendo is releasing yet another console ... The 3DS gravy train is running dry?
Internet forums are more for circlejerking (patting each other on the back) than actual discussion (exchange and analysis of information and points of view). Took me long enough to realise ...

The 3DS just turned 4 years old and you're surprised they are working on it's successor?

    DS came out Nov 2004
    3DS came out Feb 2011

Next handheld is likely out in late 2016/early 2017 making the 3DS's life span only a few months shorter then that of the DSs. Did the DS gravy train run dry? I mean it only sold like 150 million units...

Actually we don't know if the NX is the 3DS's successor ...

But I do know, Nintendo is milking the 3DS as hard as it can with the insane number of hardware revisions.

    Now yet another console ...

Edit: According to Wikipedia, it's 50.41 million units sold. 150 million LOL. Getting a bit of deja vu here, I believe I have corrected someone throwing around the 150 million number here before.

There is a lot the next system could be. My personal thoughts are it's a truly interconnected console/handheld system, or it could be a VR system. Iwata really only brought it up in order to calm fears Nintendo was leaving the dedicated gaming console business.

The DS, THE NDS You know the system that came out in Nov 2004 sold 150 million units and was REPLACED in just over 6 years. Apparently you either can't read, or have your sales numbers wrong.

Also the "actually we don't know if its the 3DS successor".

You want to wager on it? You lose you never post on a nintendo topic again and whatever you want for me? Because yes, it is 100% going to be the successor to the 3DS one way or another.

Oh please. Base on context, you were referring to the 3DS, which is a separate system from the NDS.

Wage? I'm justing point out the fact that "we don't know". I'm not asserting that it isn't nor that it is.

Trying to silence me because you can't stand my criticism of the company you worship?

Worshiping a financial instrument (yes, that's what corporations are) ...

So you won't wager then? I think we can see how you lost that point right there if you won't even put a silly message board stake on it.

As far as the context of what I said let's look at it..

Next handheld is likely out in late 2016/early 2017 making the 3DS's life span only a few months shorter then that of the DSs. Did the DS gravy train run dry? I mean it only sold like 150 million units...
You are claiming because they are working on a new project already the 3DS gravy train ran dry, yet the DS which was a much bigger success then the DS got replaced in about the exact same amount of time in which case I was asking you did the DS 150 mil install base gravy train run dry when they plopped out the 3DS? Apparently it flew way over your head.

So yes, "oh please" me some more please. Try actually reading, instead of just going "ZOMG HE SAID 150 MIL MUST GOOGLE 3DS SALED IMMEDIATELTY AND PROVE HIM WRONG" It's as if you saw the 150 mil number and didn't even read the statement.
