    New build, no monitor signal.

Built the budget build requested in my other thread with a friend who has experience building fancy gaming builds with intel.

    Intel g3258 cpu
    MSI H81M-P33 mobo
Kingston dd3 fury series ram, 2x4gb
wd caviar blue 1 tb hd
zotac geforce gtx 750 ti gpu
    rosewill fbm-01 microatx case

When you hit power, get a beep beep, fans whir, optical drive opens and closes.
Mouse lights up, but keyboard won't toggle lights for caps lock.
Monitor gets no signal via vga or dvi, the monitor works on another computer.

I've held the power button for 30s-1min with the case unplugged as suggested.

How can I tell if I'm bad mobo, hard drive, user error, etc?

    Thanks for the help.

First things first, don't panic. Second, double check that all power cords are plugged in to the motherboard properly and RAM/GPU are properly seated and try again. Also make sure your monitor is plugged in to your GPU and not the Motherboard(common mistake). Let me know how that works out.

    Troubleshooting steps:
Confirm monitor working on another computer... check.
Plug monitor into GPU via VGA/D-sub and adapter... check.
Plug monitor into GPU via DVI cable... check.
Remove GPU and plug directly into motherboard via VGA/D-sub... check.
Remove GPU and plug directly into motherboard via DVI... check.
Confirm both DVI and VGA cables working on another pc... check.
Confirm both monitors working on another pc... check.

Remove and reassemble all parts... check.
Check motherboard for bent pins... check (none).
Unplug system and hold power button in for 30-60 seconds... check.

Remove Mobo and place on non-conductive surface... check.

Contact MSI support... check. They say if no bent pins, bad mobo.

Cpu/gpu fans power on, both system fans plugged into mobo power up. Hard drive whirs, optical drive functions, usb ports give power. LED lights up, reset light is on.

No signal to monitor. Am I missing anything here?

How soon excitement of a fresh new opportunity turns to battle rage and bloodlust...

It sounds to me like you do not have the second 4-pin power connector plugged in to the motherboard. It is located right behind the PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard connections according to the picture on the manufacturer website. If that is plugged in and you have already attempted reseating everything then it's time to RMA that board. Next time, buy a more reputable brand like Gigabyte, ASUS or ASRock.

Which BIOS version is on the board?

I assume V15 zip means 1.5 version or better from here

Thanks so much gentlemen (or ladies) for the responses.
Yeah, checked BIOS with the serial, it's a 1408, and confirmed it twice with msi support - they say it should def not be a BIOS issue.

Definitely had the 2nd 4-pin connector plugged in. The ebay retailer that sold it to me is giving me a full refund to ship it back to his techs, which beats waiting "5-15 business days" for RMA.

And I can take time to find a board to fit my build in line with Lathais's advice.
Should I ask for advice for a new MOBO in this thread or the original one I posted asking for help with a new build?

    ASRock H97M Anniversary $69

Or if you're ok with some rebate go for a Z97:

    ASRock Z97M Anniversary $75 (after $15 rebate)
