How would the world react if there was undeniable proof of intelligent alien life?

Some smart enterprising young man would start a new religon based around an explaination of this alien life, and the usual bullshit to explain everything else. The lemmings would follow, it would become the dominate religon on Earth. Don't ask me what happens next.

religious people would deny it just as we do with current facts like evolution, or ignore it or try to incorporate it into religious books just as the religious have done with pretty much every other debunking of their respective book.

The majority would probably care for about 1 day - 2 weeks before forgetting it even happened just like pretty much everything else these days. I mean remember Kony 2012 and other massively hyped up situations? Took about 1 day for most people to stop caring, after 2 weeks it was down to a handful of people caring.

The vast majority of humans would not care if Aliens were discovered after 2 weeks.

Think about this.
Any animal that has ever been in competition with humans, has been brought to the brink of extinction.
If we are in competition with another animal, we stop at nothing to destroy that animal.
Eventually our technology is so advanced that animal has absolutely no chance to stand up against us.

With intelligent animals (humans) we destroy the ones who put up a fight and bring the rest into our culture, parts of their culture survive and meld with our own but for the most part their culture is destroyed.
The same thing would happen with aliens, if they can't develop new and improved technologies faster than us, they would either be destroyed or assimilated into our culture eventually.

They would deny it. There are plenty of things that people have no valid reason not to believe yet they do.

Well we should figure out if they're hostile first, then observe their culture, see what classes as currency for them, figure out if they have any enemies ect... Decide if what they have is of any use to us, if yes approach them and try and establish some kind of long distance trading contract. Then eventually try and gain them as allies, share knowledge and such, but keep them out of reach of the common man who may have watched too many evil alien movies.
