Used gaming rig, is this a good deal? (newbie here)

Hey all, so I'm being offered a used desktop for $1,600. I'm a bit of a dinosaur and haven't much knowledge of the latest hardware, of which this particular rig is as follows:

    • PSU - CORSAIR AX series AX760 760W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Active
    • CASE - Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl w/ USB 3.0 ATX Mid Tower Silent PC Case
    • RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866
    • GPU - EVGA 03G-P4-2884-KR GeForce GTX 780 Ti Superclocked 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support w/EVGA ACX Cooler
    • CPU - Intel Core i7-4770K Quad-Core Desktop Processor 3.5 GHZ 8 MB Cache
    • MOBO - ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO DDR3 2800 LGA 1150 Motherboard
    • CPU COOLER - Corsair Hydro Series Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler H100i
    • CPU COOLER FANS - 2 of Noctua NF-F12 PWM Cooling Fan
    • CASE FANS - 4 of Noctua 140mm Premium Quiet Quality Case Cooling Fan NF-A14 FLX
    • SSD - Samsung 840 Pro Series 2.5-Inch 256 GB SATA 6GB/s Solid State Drive

I saw the rig in question in person and it seems to have been pretty well taken care of, so my question is, is $1,600 a good deal for this setup? I'm looking for something that will last at least the next 2 or 3 years with good performance, mostly playing Warlords and Archeage. Thanks.

Unless im missing something fairly substantial... not remotely. (not remembering how much the 780Ti ran for when it was new... i'm not even entirely certain that thing was 1600 new)

Yeah that is not worth the price, specially if the computer has been used a lot. 800-1000 I would say MIGHT be worth the purchase for a 2nd hand computer, if kept in excellent condition.

1600 bucks will get some something newer and better. Not to say that isn't a beastly system still. Just not worth that kind of money anymore.

Um...No. You can build one yourself for less than that, with better parts.

Certainly not worth the asking price. Will it last you a few more years? Possibly, but I would suggest asking for a price drop on it. Especially, since you can build a decent gaming rig for a few hundred dollars less and it will be brand new. Minus whatever you carry over from a rig you have currently.

    PSU - $160
    CASE - $120
    RAM - $135
    GPU - $900 (~$500 refurbished)
    CPU - $340
    MOBO - $150
    CPU COOLER - $115
    CPU COOLER FANS - $46 ($23 each)
    CASE FANS - $96 ($24 each)
    SSD - $165

That's what it would cost to build today. Ive taken these numbers with a quick search on Amazon, so chances are good you'll find them cheaper if you hunt around. Total price of $2227. the GPU is obviously the controlling factor. Like everyone else said, you could probably build something newer/better for less.

the GPU is MORE expensive than it was because its not produced anymore, same with the CPU.

Id be looking at what it cost to put together when it was built. the 780Ti MSRP at launch was 700. It quickly went to about 580 due to price drop competition with the 290X. So id call it 600 on the GPU. The CPU was about that price MSRP - you could get it cheaper at Microcenter in-store but i dont assume everyone can do that.

so.. knock that down to, brand new, this thing was in the 1800-1900 ballpark.. and he wants 1600 for it? Nope. All kinds of nope.

You could build better for cheaper. (And some of the parts he got are massive overkill)
