Sorry but people have been calling it a casserole since before you were born.

You could insult my spouse or my mother, I would laugh it off. You insult my pizza, you're catching a pizza cutter to the jugular.

Maybe not the originator, but we've been calling their "pizza" anything from lasagna to casserole for a very long time.

    Well, of course we do.

Americans eat approximately 100 acres of pizza each day, or 350 slices per second. Pizza is a $30 billion per year industry. There are approximately 61,269 pizzerias in the United States.
    That's 0.404686 square kilometers.

Also, there's even more types of crust. I prefer thick crust with homemade pizzas
but anything is fine by me from a pizzeria.

    Thin crust

    Thick crust

    Stuffed crust

But for many places you can get nearly any topping (though you may get a weird

many times individual pizza joints will have several things that do not vary from pizza
    to pizza.

California and Hawaii ones look delicious!
Chicago one looks like someone already ate a pizza, then decided to puke it back out, i'd never eat that.

For the ones claiming NY pizza to be the "real" pizza, the one in this picture looks nothing like the only real neapolitan pizza (which is the only real one, as it was invented there):

So what is the typical US pizza?

Hurry up deliveries are closing soon!
In the US there are 3 schools of Pizza, granted people on the East Coast hate the idea of the West Coast pizza.

New York Pizza - Large thin and crispy crust, traditional is with light sauce, light cheese, and thin pepperoni, and maybe anchovies. (my least favorite Pizza)
Chicago Pizza - Is a thick deep dish pizza the crust is usually softer, Chicago pizzas usually have 2-3 toppings Pepperoni, Olives, Mushrooms, Peppers, Onions, Anchovies, Italian sausage, ect.
West Coast pizza - Can be thick, thin, or different (sourdough, wheat, rye, Stuffed), with toppings that include ham and pineapple(always together Called 'Hawaian'), artichoke, Chicken, replace the tomato sauce with an Alfredo sauce, replace the mozzarella with feta, spicy jack, or something else ie Blue Cheese. Californian Pizzas and Hawaiian Pizzas, are also known as Gourmet Pizzas.

yes, I know its not a cliché American topping, but trust me, Banana on Pizza is awesome.

As for a classic American pizza, Pizza hut here in the UK do an "Americano"
Smoky BBQ sauce, extra chicken breast, bacon & sweet corn with a BBQ drizzle.

How American it ism I have no idea. But it does sound nice.
    It's Pizzahut...

It's like asking how Traditionally Mexican is Taco Bell. That said, PizzaHut is popular in the US, and yes every now and again a BBQ pizza is fun. However who on Earth puts corn on a pizza? 0.o

Parts of Europe, apparently. It also seems that they don't believe in using pictures
with less than 1kx1k pixels when photographing said pizzas.

Also, that's nothing. Check out corndog pizzas.

Well as a Californian who likes eggs, I do not think I have ever seen an Egg on a Pizza, and somehow I don't find the idea all that appealing.

I would say the Wombo Combo at Roundtable is the Classic California Pizza.

However thanks to a certain Austrian we now have really crazy gourmet style pizzas.

Honestly I just Googled California pizza and put what came up. Though, the setting
around it seems very formal, so it's probably one of those more posh places anyway
rather than something comparable to the others listed.
