I started mount farming seriously during the year of SoO. It's one of the things I find most fun in-game at the moment. While I've gotten lucky on a couple (eg. TLPD) I'm don't really have the patience for the rare spawn-style mount drops that generally require camping; I prefer farming the low drop % ones.

I have all the Draenor rares.

I got Ashes on my first 4th run. I have all of the Draenor rares. I have TLPD and Aeonaxx. I have the grey camel. I got Voidtalon after logging in at a spawn location-no camping was done. I also have flametalon, and the other orange firebird from Firelands. Attune's horse, Rivendare's steed, Vitreous drake and drake from vortex pinnacle. Alani from grinding sky crystals.

On the other hand I have probably killed 25m heroic LK 100+ times with no sign of Invincible and the same could be said for Onyxia...

The only mounts I can farm right now are:

1 - Rukhmar (diligently doing it on 4 characters, might expand to 7 during 6.2)
2 - Nalak (been doing it since pandaria release, nowadays its 12 rolls (6 + 6 mogu runes) per week, might expand to 14 in 6.2)
3 - 1 invasion mount (giant coldsnout, got 2 duplicates and I'm almost at 50 invasions completed on main and 20+ on every alt)
4 - stables' ones (gotta build that thing first, maybe one day)
5 - pvp 100 arena/40 rbg and stuff ones (kind of slacking there)
6 - voidtalon of dark star (trying post-reset snatches to no avail so far)
7 - ashran rep one 5k apex + 5k gold (will get to it soon I guess)
8 - nat pagle one for coins (might get to it in 6.2 while fishing for felblight)
9 - glory of draenor raider (might get to it in 6.2)
10 -Mythic Blackhand bull (will maybe get it before 6.2)

Not to bad I guess, provided I was doing it diligently every week and accumulated hundreds of kills on some bosses (especially pandaria world bosses) before seeing the coveted drops.

I'd consider myself average lucky. Some I got really fast (Invincible in a mere 16 runs, Ultraxion in 3 runs), while the Alysrazor mount took over 200 attempts (not that much from what I've seen from others).
As for persistence, the prettier/uniquer the mount, the more motivated I am. I still miss a few dungeon mounts, but they don't look that special, so they are on low prio. For a mount like Mimiron's head, I farmed it religiously every week on as many chars as I could (finally got it after ~100 tries ).

I still miss a lot of raid mounts. I will keep clearing the instances even after I get most of the mounts though, it's a nice source of money and right now there isn't much to do anyways. I only do these activities on my main, so I can't do the raids on multiple alts each week, so at least I won't get burned out so quickly.

I farmed for most mounts that drop in 5mans quite persistently though. I got the Raven Lord and Kael's Hawkstrider after nearly two months of clears (got both mounts a day apart from each other, which was incredibly lucky). The mounts from ZG and the Blue proto-drake took a bit longer. I still haven't got the Deathcharger or the drakes from the Cata 5 mans; I got burned out clearing Vortex Pinnacle and Stratholme and I never cared about the mount in Stonecore. Funnily, I had the Flametalon drop twice. I got it the first time a long time ago, because a fire mage could easily solo it in the flight phase and again when clearing the the whole raid for the Firehawk.

Still, my all-time luckiest moment was winning the Astral Cloud Serpent from Elegon. It dropped after our first kill and I couldn't believe I was the one that won the raid roll.

Huolon mount - 1 in 100 my ass, got it 2 days ago after 800 kills over 3 toons since the first day of Timeless. Was doubly happy as finally getting it also gave me the bigger bag achieve and the 250 mount achieve. Was so much fun camping that with a massive alliance superiority on the isle.
