Question and Suggestion regarding the rules

Hi there, I was reading the forum rules regarding infractions, and I have a few questions that I was hoping could get some answers.

The way I understood it, when one breaks a rule, they get an infraction, they're worth certain points depending on the severity of the rule broken (linking porn isn't as severe as insulting someone for example) and once you accrue 15 points, you get a ban. So far so good.

    Here are my questions though:

Question number 1: Is there a chart for users to know how much each infraction is worth? Which ones result in something minor like 5 points and which ones result in something big like 20 points?

Another thing that the forum rules page regarding infractions (http://www.mmo-champion.com/faq.php?...es_infractions) doesn't explain very well the length of some infractions. Most seem to last 30 days, but in the example given on that page, one can get 90 day ones for more serious breaches.

So here is question number 2: Upon receiving a ban, future infractions, no matter how minor will always last 90 days instead of 30?

Question number 3: Ban duration. The faq doesn't really explains it well. Uppon reaching the 15 point threshold, one gets a 3 day ban. Get banned again and its 1 week? get banned again and its 2 weeks? how exactly the increment works? is there a limit to this increment? can a user actually be perma-banned?

Question Number 4: This one is also a suggestion, thrown into the mix. When we get an infraction for breaking a rule, why can't we see how long it will last? I dunno, I feel like it would help to know which ones are permanent, and how big the ones we're getting are. Just a teensy suggestion.

Thanks for your time, for whoever reads this.

As far as seeing how long infraction last

Click on your name on the top left. This will take you to the members screen. Once there you will see 5 tabs. "About me" "friends" "infractions" "post areas" "username history"

Click on infractons and it will show your complete infraction history. When you received it what it was for and when it will expire.

We do have a system, but no, there isn't a chart for users. The reason for this is twofold; first,we have some infractions with multiple point values, depending on the severity of the offense, and it isn't productive to have users challenging the point value (we do so during appeals, behind the scenes, in any case). The second is that it encourages users to "game" the system; "Oh, I have 5 infraction points, so I get one free Flaming before I get banned" kind of stuff. It happens anyway, based on their guesswork; giving them a chart gives them more concrete values to work from, which isn't in the forum community's best interests.

Infraction points have three possible durations. The vast majority are 90 days. Signature/avatar infractions are the ones that are 30 days; they're relatively minor offenses, and we use those more as warnings to poke people back within the guidelines (same principle for why they're 4 points, and not 5; a single Sig/Av infraction will never ban you.)

And then there's permanent infractions, but those are similarly rare. The most common is ban evasion, where someone makes a second account to keep posting when their main is banned; we'll permaban the new alt account.

Question number 3: Ban duration. The faq doesn't really explains it well. Uppon reaching the 15 point threshold, one gets a 3 day ban. Yes, there's a system. It's based on your point value after the infraction is issued. It scales up as you accumulate more points.

It is technically possible to get permabanned through this, but it's rare. The increased ban duration and the above point decay helps to prevent that. The goal of the infraction system is to give people some time to rethink their behaviour, so they can stop acting that way and be productive members of the community.

As Baar linked, you should have access to this.

I see, yeah that sounds reasonable.

    Ya, I noticed. Thanks Baar
