Do proxies hide my real IP address? Erm it depends on the type of proxy being used ,right?

So, someone makes a new account to ask if a proxy hides his IP, does this smell of someone wanting to do something against the rules, but needing to be sure his main account won't be hurt in the process?

Yes proxies hide your IP, no idea if you can somehow trace you still

Your first post reeks of one of the following..

You were banned from here or another forum and are trying to circumvent that ban.
You caused trouble and some Internet hacker wannabe said they had your IP and were going to blow up your computer with a virus.
You want to cause trouble or do something illegal and are trying to hide your IP.
Don't realize that your IP isn't some super secret piece of info that is viewed and recorded by EVERY website you visit.

But to answer your question, no. The best case scenario is you would slow the trace down but you will never hide it 100%. Don't do stupid crap on the web and run a firewall. Your IP is about as important as your home address as far as security is concerned.
