Eh, when Square Enix said they'd get dragon quest games to the NX, that's when the rumors began that they might also plan to port final fantasy games to it. It definitely is in the realm of possibility, as they recently added Cloud to the Super Smash Bros game.

B) It's not coming to Nintendo because the NX isn't going to be out in time
C) It is coming to the NX, but Nintendo didn't want that being announced yet because it would narrow down the release date of the NX.

Were the updated versions of Sonic CD and the other Genesis games released on any Nintendo platforms? Apparently Mania is heavily based on those games engines so I am wondering if maybe something like that would be the reason, though I cant imagine that would be much of an issue.

Sonic CD isn't, I swore there was a Sonic 1 in 3D on the 3DS, but there is the collection of Genesis games.

Yeah I remember there was the 3D Classic version of 2 and of course the various emulated versions of the originals, but CD was an enhanced re-release that came out also with some new stuff like Tails being playable. I think 1 & 2 also had similar re-releases as well. I am going to assume until I read otherwise that Mania is just heavily based off of those re-releases (since same person/group worked on them) and since they were never developed for a Nintendo system, that is why they currently haven't announced it for them.

NX is labeled March 17, Sonic Mania is "Spring".

I fail to see how NX won't be out.

The thing with Mania is it's being made by western indy developers funded by Sega. Unlike Project 2017 which is being made in Japan by Sonic Team.

I shouldn't have to tell you which one is more likely to have NX dev kits. Which is why one is confirmed for NX and the other one isn't. Mania will likely be a late port to NX.

The NX is a hybrid, and will be using Nvidia tegra chips. Possibly X2, maybe something else. It's a handheld that can use a docking station to connect to HDTVs. At it's base, supposedly, it's on par with the XB1. Maybe with that docking station (if going by the patents) it will give it a power boost to make it on par with the Neo. That last sentence is speculation on my part, but here are the articles.
