I worry more about my battery on my phone dying when I'm out of the house (car issues are always a real worry) so that bugs me more then thinking someone might call me. I get like 2 legitimate calls a year. The rest are my schools automated system calling about this or that (like classes able to be enrolled in) or my mom saying 3 words and hanging up.
Guess I'm not surprised I'm the not the only forever alone in this thread!
I knew an acquaintance in college who was so weird about her phone privacy that she'd change numbers every few months and would actually remove the battery from her phone on a regular basis. Nice, but strange girl...
get rid of your phone. it's quite nice. everything you think you need it for... you don't.
"but how will i..."
no. there's other ways. ditch your smart phone. abandon social media. your life will improve.
I hate my cell for the most part. I really dislike texting. But I fear turning it off in case of family emergencies which seem to happen a lot. I also have some weird anxiety about thinking something bad has happened, or someone has bad news of some type every time it rings...
Not to mention I have had someone prank calling me for 5 months at least once a week. The calls go like this....
me: "Hello?"
anonymous caller: "Hi, is this Miss kitty cat?"
me: "no..."
anonymous caller: "Is Miss kitty cat there?"
me: "Wrong number." -hangs up-
every call after the first one
me: "Hello?"
caller: Miss Kitty cat?"
me: "I will find you and gut you mother fucker!!!!"
caller: "Aww, don't be upset Miss kitty cat."
me: -throws phone-
I did talk to him for awhile once when I was really drunk...he was quite boring.
i never answer my phone unless their info pops up.
if it comes up as unknown, its right to voicemail.
I do like when my phone battery dies, or when I leave it at home. I have it on silent 100% of the time out of habit from being at work. It is very freeing. I don't answer calls/texts when I don't feel like it, eventually you have to deal with it though
I have no friends to bother me, so I don't have a problem. :>
Best feeling in the world is popping bubble wrap.

If I ignored the fact that I love my job, I'm sure it would be fantastically relaxing to put my phone on airplane/silent mode when I left the office. However, we've got some very important clients using our software, and if something critical is broken, and they can't get a hold of me, I'm sure I could face a shitstorm of managerial issues. I can't even remember what it's like to not check my phone every so often to make sure I don't miss important stuff.
As someone who needs their phone for work and for social media for work I would have withdrawal turning my phone off. I might even suffer seizures and memory loss!
