Computer freezing (Ram issue i think)

I have had this PC for a couple of years now and everything has been fine with it, recently (a few months ago) it started getting really laggy and slow after being on for 8hrs +, i figured it may just have a lot of stuff on it.

The issue was basically forcing my Ram usage into absurd levels and once it hit 99% it would never come back down, i was going to buy an SSD anyway so i figured w/e ill fix it when i get the SSD and thought it could just be the HDD having a problem with writing info (dont ask).

I bought the SSD very recently (2 weeks ago) and put it into the computer at the same time installing windows 8 and i am still having the same issue i had before, it isint just as bad but the slow down is still very noticable and when i load into wow very occasionally my FPS drops exceptionally low, this then turns into a complete freeze of the PC.

I have tried the dump files on all different settings, it is currently just handled by the computer.

This screenshot is my performance tab in task manager at the time of writing this post, i have got nothing but google chrome with 5 tabs / skype / battle net desktop app / steam active and i would love to know if there is anyone who knows their stuff who can identify what is going on with the computer, i just dont feel my ram usage should stay as high as it does (i know ram being used is good) but 99% while running wow in a raid seems a bit extreme.

Can we get a picture of what's actually running when it reaches usage that high? Seems like memory leak issues to me.

Look at the processes tab, sorted by memory usage. This will show you what is in memory and if the usage grows for one or more during the day, that may signify a memory leak. if it is one or more of the svchost processes, some app is communicating and you should look for that. did you perform a virus/malware scan before installing Win 8?

This should be what you are looking for and ye i did virus scan the windows 8 before install, but this issue was happening prior to installing it on my windows 7 OS.

When i restart the PC the problem goes away and the computer is lightning fast for the first few hours 90% of the time, there is the odd occasion like today where i turned it on, logged onto wow and the fps lag was absurd like every single bit of processable memory was used.

Thank you for the extremely fast replies.

I guess another thing to point out is that the numbers for 'physical memory in use' literally never adds up to what is shown in the process tab when it gets this high, its not even close.

Did one of your RAM thingies died? because based on one screenshot, i can gestimate that you have ~1200 MB of RAM and its at 83% usage

See all the Chrome entries? that is a massive amount of memory for a browser, check your plug ins for something you do not recognize and disable it for a bit. There should be only a couple of Chrome processes running, depending on how many tabs you keep open. remember if the web page is open, even minimized, any ads are still running (video kills communications and eats processor/GPU). close what you don't really need open. if you don't see any plug in that can be disabled, run Firefox for a day, there may be a process or service that requires chrome to be running, i cannot think of why you have so many of them running.

i must be looking at the wrong screenshot... less than 200MB is not a massive amount.. if it was at 2GB then yeah

    mmmm

if you feel comfortable doing so, download Sysinternals.. Its from Microsoft... BTW, DONT MESS AROUND WITH IT...

link is below, or you can search for it... not making it a url just because... note.. bah.. it made it a url anyways.. well.. boo

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...rnals/bb842062

if you decide to download it, extract the files, no need to install anything, and run procexp... we can get a more detailed report with it

Test out the memory by searching memory and click the wheel looking icon and click on test memory and restart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCDc0cQAK5E

My G skill memory failed in a year when i noticed when im trying to extract files with Winrar i always got error unable to read with a bunch of numbers. Reinstalling windows always stops around 40% unable to read file errors. So i can the test and it found a problem so i removed 1 stick and didn't detect problems and so i put the other one in and it detected problems. After that it was fine running like a new computer with no slowdown.

If you have paging file disabled on the SSD then it might make it act funny and SSD's this days have trim support and win 8.1 manages SSD's better and it was an issue back when it first came out around 2006 if memory serves me right.

Then try a malwarebytes scan.. once downloaded, it should auto update and run automatically.

that one might take a while, ill check in 30min or so
