A lot of Americans are under the impression that just because they pay more, they get better service, when in most objective studies they do worse in a lot of areas. I know a lot of people who have this outlook on the world, "It costs more therefor it must be better!" Companies make billions off of these suckers by putting a name brand on it and charging 3x the price as the generic.

That's the point. People coming to the US for treatment isn't the only direction. Implying people come to the US for our "stellar" (laugh out loud) care as if that was the only direction is silly on its face. It goes both ways because the US system can be HORRIBLE about employing new treatments. Doctors over here are very stuck in older treatments because they're practiced, where swedish dr's tend to use newer methods. People go to Sweden if US doctors fail to have treatment options. People come to the US if they have a torn ligament that needs repairing and the NHS tells them 4 months for surgery... and they have the money to pay for it.

Hell, people go to south and central America for cheap plastic surgery. But you also get what you pay for.

Medical tourism is a thing, and it goes EVERYWHERE, not just to America.

I am something of an authority on this. Yes. What do you think is causing the UK to be ranked 10th for "healthy lives"? It aint just pasties and beer.
