Sen. Warren Receives 240,000 Signatures Asking to Cancel All to Student Debt

Last week, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the Senate's foremost advocate for lowering student debt and lowering the cost of college, received a petition signed by over 240,000 people. The petition called on Congress and the president to cancel all student debt.

are these people serious? and the attended college? do they care what reneging on 1.3 trillion worth of debt would do to our financial system? or do they expect the American tax payer to pick up the bill?
that would come to be about 7 thousand dollars per tax payer. do they care that many of those tax payers cant afford to send their own kids to college and they will get stuck paying 7 thousand on some one else's college education because they want to renege on their own commitment and responsibility.

this is who we have voting these days. what scares the crap out of me we actually have democrats that would be willing to make that promise for those votes

As much as I would love to have my $250,000 of student debt removed, I Know it won't happen.

WTF!!! If they get theirs then I either want all student loan money back I re-paid... or to go get another degree for FREE.

Is it time to get the pitchforks ready?

The general point is that there aren't enough available jobs that can realistically pay down their debt. Working as a fry cook (which most college students do out of college) isn't going to may off student loans.

But I'm certain you don't care and you're just going to say they should have studied something useful, they were poor students, they're not trying hard enough or whatever. But that's because there's no reasoning with you.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

Theres also a point to be made that the money not spend on student debt can be put into other areas of the economy.

They should do it on the condition that it has to be proven the debt can not be paid off, and they must work in the public sector. For whatever their skill set is.

Perhaps if a college education wasn't so fucking expensive, I'd agree with the OP.
Books, tuition, parking, transcript requests, etc. College gouges each and every student who comes through the door.

And the fact that you need a degree for anything now.

How about we just use all the money from everyone 55+ right now to fund free public education and whatever else we can?

I mean they had the best economy on the planet, ran it into the ground, handed gen Y and their children the bill, and told them it was all their fault. Taking all of their money and assets isn't even socialism---it's collecting on the debt they've been racking up.

Funny how in every country with public education and public health, etc. it costs less.

Capitalism has made our college prices ridiculous.

I'd argue more that it is the exclusivity of some colleges charging a ton causing other ones to follow suit :P

And the health care thing is a lot more complicated than just "capitalism"
