Upgrading Computer - will these be okay?

Hey all, been playing PS4 for quite awhile, but I want to get into the PC swing of things. I currently have a Cyberpower PC Ultra 2175. (Part links at bottom).

Looking to play Dragon Age Inquisition and The Witcher 3 on at least High settings. I'm upgrading the CPU/GPU to AMD FX-8350 and Geforce GTX 970 respectively. Obviously 350W power supply won't cut it probably, so picking up a semi-cheap corsair CX750M (750W). I got a few questions as far as the plan goes before buying these...

    1) My research tells me that, while the CPU is important, its not as important as the GPU. Thus, I choose a higher end GPU while sticking with the recommended CPU for The Witcher 3. Is the weakness of the CPU going to throttle any gameplay I could obtain through the GPU?

    2) I am concerned with the motherboard. As far as I can tell, the components seem compatible with the exception of the GPU requiring a PCI Express 3.0 expansion slot, rather than the motherboard's 2.0 version. I was told that it is backwards compatible though, and won't hugely effect performance, or is what I was told wrong?

    3) In general, are these selections alright or was there something better I was missing? My price range is around 500-700 dollars.

I appreciate any and all advice, thank you!

I would only get the gpu and psu to be honest. Just check your mobo how long gpu can take just to be sure. If you ain't happy then you after than then consider a stronger cpu. with 700usd can even get a 4690k/Z97. Don't get the CX psu.

If you are only playing at 1080p@60hz then a gtx960 might be better since you won't notice the performance difference of the 970 on that resolution and hz. Then again a 970 might give that "future proof" down a few years, you got the budget.

Thanks for the tips Kostatto! I'm sticking with the 970 though, since I'd like to future proof as you say :P
