Okay so i haven't really played WoD since a few weeks after it got released. i go on even so often of an alt to level for an hour or so but i've been extremely busy. Is it worth doing a whole bunch of stuff on my level 100 or just waiting until 6.2 and for the meantime just leveling alts? What have i missed?

You haven't missed a thing TBH.
Other than the greatness that is the Heirloom tab.
Working on that definetly makes the alt grinding slightly less of a chore.
If you don't care for raiding on the 100, I'd just go play with Alts. Maybe work on some older achievements, 'just because'.
